To be more specific:
5000 HGVC points does equal 125,000 HHonors points.
5000 HGVC points will land you in a five star studio for 15+ days during peak season (220 weekdays, 440 weekends), or 7+ days in a 1 br suite (480 weekdays, 960 weekends), or a 2 br for 4+ days in a 2 br suite (700 weekdays, 1400 weekends).
125 HHonors points, at 40,000 per night in a category 6 hotel room (comparable to a HGVC studio) will get you 3 nights.
Offpeak season in HGVC will go even further. Generally, silver season is HALF the point of peak season. Double the HGVC estimate above.
Most HGVC folks will tell you that HHonors conversion are not a good deal- but some say that with the prices in Europe it can become reasonable. Here in the states, it is NOT.

Not quite... You are relating HGVC points to Studio HGVC Points which gets you what you stated. But, the 125K points are hotel points which won't get you HGVC stays. So if you want to stay in Hilton Hotels, you need HH Points which won't get you anywhere near 15+ days for 5000 HGVC points...

Agreed JLEE2070. I mainly posted this to give somebody a generic idea of how the points compare. In most cases, it is not worthwhile to convert HGVC points to HHonors points.
I do think there is a way to use HHonors points to get into HGVC resorts. I think it is very limited but it sures seems like I saw this somewhere - maybe the HHonors site.
