Hilton Head or scam

I am not sure this is the correct place to post this. I just received a call from a sales person in Hilton Head. We attended a timeshare presentation in September when we were staying at the Coral Reef. He wants us to come back. For $229.00 for 4 nights we can stay at one of their resorts. We have 12 months to use it. I am worried that if I buy it I will not be able to get a reservation when I want. I know it will probably involve a timeshare presentation. I am not worried about that I said no before and I would say no again. What do you think?

Chances are you would be able to use it as they want you back there to attend the presentation. The four nights probaby are Sunday -Wednesday (or Mon. - Thu), with a premium added if you want a weekend.

Perhaps one way to do this is ask if some specific dates were available (of course you'd have to know now some dates that will work for you). Then tell him you'd only buy the package if you can book those dates right now on the phone.

I think it's only a scam to the extent they want you to buy a timeshare at developer prices.

Id just ask what the available times are, like the last poster suggested. If you can travel during the available times, they consider it.

Also, for that price you might be able to do a "last call" on RCI for a full week, so thats an option too.

Rachel,

Your call was most likely from Spinnaker Resorts - the packages they offer are legit but are subject to availability. So for prime summer dates, you are less likely to get dates that work for you. For shoulder season or off-season, much higher probability. If you do one of the packages, it does include a time-share presentation.

We used the Spinnaker package a couple of times to add some additional days to our HHI timeshare vacation. My wife purchased another package recently, and we'll use it sometime this year.

Ok, then I guess if they can give me some days in July I will take it. Since I am new to the beaches of the East Coast I would imagine it is very hot and humid in July.

My only word of caution is that I did something similar with a Marriott Resort promo. It was $199 for 5 nights in West Palm Beach. I asked specifically if I would be able to book for President's week in February of that year, as that would be the only time (other than summer which I didn't want for Florida) I could vacation. No problem, he said. Well. It was a big problem. I could not get a reservation and I lost the $199.

Unless you have lots of travel flexibility, there is a possibility your dates may not match available dates. Keep in mind, the "prime weeks" are popular for all. And, some don't release weeks until a few weeks out, making advanced planning challenging.
So, having said that, it is legit, but they do not guarantee available dates.
Good luck.

I had a similar experience. Explained to the guy before I signed up for the promo that only one location and one particular check-in date would do. Ask him at least a dozen times if he was sure I could get that date. He repeatedly assured me that it would be no problem.

When I called to make the reservation, they didn't allow check-ins that day of the week in Orlando. They could give me the next day, but that didn't solve my problem. I needed to add two nights on before our timeshare week because DS's school band was playing at Universal Studios. They offered immediately (and repeatedly) to refund my money, but I wanted the two nights in a hotel I had been promised. It was for Spring break time and I couldn't find any decent rates on hotels.

In the end, after a few slightly heated conversations, I found someone who could make it happen. Not only did I get the dates I need, they are giving us a 2br unit in the resort we'll be touring. For $59 we get a $50 Bass Pro Shop gift card and two night's lodging. It's worth my morning.

I share this to remind you that no doesn't always mean no if you get the right person on the phone.
