Hilton Head in December

I'm thinking about going to Hilton Head the first week of December. There's plenty of availability in II, and I can just exchange the small side of my Shadow Ridge lock-off unit.

Can anyone tell me what the weather will be like that time of year? Are most of the shops and restaurants closed for the season, or is there still plenty to do?

Any suggestions for resorts right on the beach?

Thanks so much for any and all advice.

The average temperature on the Island would be in the sixty's during the day and in the forty's at night.

The first week in December could be in the seventy's.

I would try to exchange into the Marriott's Grand Ocean.

We have stayed at Marriott Grande Ocean for the last 2 years in early December. In 2008, the weather was in the high 60's and was clear and dry. The restaurants were all open and not busy so we never needed reservations and never had to wait. It was wonderful! In 2009, we were there the same week and the weather was cooler and much wetter. It was still a nice vacation.

Our favorite meals were at Sea Grass Grill, Alfred's and Charlie's L'Etoile Verte.

Thank you all for the advice. I have never stayed at Hilton Head that late in the year, but I'm going to go for it this year. It sounds like a nice, relaxing vacation without the crowds.

We went to Hilton Head one Christmas and stayed at the Surfwatch. The weather was in the 60s. We had two days of almost 70 degrees. My kids got in the hot tub in the evenings, but it was too cold for me. Even though I prefer to go to HHI in the summer, we had a lovely time in December. Enjoy your vacation.

We were there 5 years ago in mid December. It was in the low 50's most days, may have even been high 40's a few times of the day. I was surprised at how cold it was --- I hadn't checked ahead and assumed it would be a bit warmer.........those beach walks were cold and windy.

I second the Grand Ocean - beautiful buildings and units, close to the beach.

One year I had temperatures on the 30's for 2 days only. One year almost 80 on Christmas day. Anyway, no crowds in December and the beachfront properties have heat pools and the spas at 104F. It's so relaxing.

Think about buying a getaway, it might be cheaper than using your studio!
