HICV buying resell questions

My parents are already owners of Holiday Inn vacation club points and so in order to capitalize on their ownership we are interested in buying resell. Someone is advertising on TUG a Lake Geneva points contract that I am interested in as it is one of the three resorts where the points stay with. I realize that if we add them to my parents account, they do not link with status. I’m also interested in a lake Tahoe Fixed week. Are there any other restrictions to the fixed weeks that I should know about? Thank you for any advice you may be able to provide.
Also, is there any benefit or negatives to adding what I purchase on my parents account versus creating my own new one?

The advantage you would have is that if you are using their points it would allow you to use both the points you have acquired from one of the golden 3 resorts. If they ever end up buying more points HICV very well might let you bring points in towards status. We had this happen where we bought SB points and then for buying a few more points they gave us status with those points.

to your last question, like lundberry said, a benefit is that you could buy developer points to bring those resale points and qualify for status. The negative is having to pay two yearly club fees, and not having enough points to book a full week with the new lake geneva points. Rental points would also be limited by the amount of points in the 2nd account.

I would move your parents account into a trust (if already paid in full), include yourself as a beneficiary of the trust with your parents, and add new points into the trust. That way you would 1 yearly membership fee, everyone can use the accounts as owners, and if you ever buy developer points the trust account would be upgraded as well.

In regards to fixed weeks. Each property has their bylaws. It would be best to check those documents for usage, restrictions, etc. Or talk to current deeded owners at those properties to get that kind of information. I purchased a floating week at Desert Club, and learned a lot from those documents. To see those document, join the HICV FB group (the not affiliated), and see the document area.
