Heading to HH BBC for the first time (both to HH and BB) in 2 weeks and have heard that HH has alot of bike paths. We have 4 kids and are wondering if we should take our kids bikes with us and if there is somewhere to keep them safe and secure? Do bike paths run thru HH and the resort, etc? Do they have storage racks?

Thanks for any advise and assistance.

It depends. There are bike paths in Barony and the William Hilton Pkwy to other areas but you cannot enter some parts of Port Royal where there are private homes.
Bike rentals are 25 a week to rent at the resort which I find more convienent. There are many rental companies but for us it took 3 hours to get bikes delivered to Barony and we were all upset waitiing 2 hours beyond the promised delivery time. You can rent for a few days but it is cheaper by the week .
I am not sure how far you are driving to get to HH or if the extra baggage is worth the savings for your family. However ,you cannot bring bikes into SeaPines Plantation which IMHO has the most beautiful paths on the island. The only way is to rent inside SP itself.

Here's a pathway map and you can pick up a nice trail map at the visitor center along with other useful info such as the restaurant guide with area menus.
http://www.pelicancruiser.com/ click on the bike map area for the paths

http://www.hhisleinfo.com nice link with lots of info

Craig, maybe you would want to spend one day exploring SeaPines paths and Harbortown area, rent bikes inside SP for the day, have lunch etc. Less expensive than renting 6 bikes or the hassle of bringing them. Ask about helmets. There is a gate fee to enter the plantation. There is also a stable where the kids can have pony rides-Lawton Stables and/or do a trail ride.

Craig,
IMO, the bike paths around Barony (Port Royal Plantation) are not that great. You basically have one bike path that takes you to the bike path on William Hilton Parkway, and then the path just goes along the busy road. We like riding on the beach, however, the salt water is hard on bikes so I would just rent from Barony if you plan on riding on the beach. Also, if you bring the bikes on a rooftop rack... check the clearance before you go into the garages at Barony (just ask MikeM132). Sorry Mike, I just couldn't resist :D . We just returned from Barony and my brother and his family joined us, they brought their bikes and only rode once for about 20 minutes. The girls didn't like riding on the beach. It's pretty tough riding on the beach when you ride into the wind. And they complained it was too hot to ride (they were right). We never rent bikes when we go in the summer because of the heat. pcgirl is correct... Sea Pines is the BEST place on the island to ride (but too far to ride to from Barony). You could spend a whole day riding on the beautiful paths in Sea Pines and never be bored. Last time we rented bikes in Sea Pines it was $7.00 a day to rent. Even when we rent bikes from Barony for the week, which we do every spring... we rent them for a day in Sea Pine because they have the best bike paths on the island, IMO.

Have a great time. You will love HHI and Barony. Try to request the Morning Glory or the Bayberry building (these are ocean view villas), they have both been refurbished and are beautiful. If you can't get either one of those... I would just take a garden unit (exchangers are usually put here anyway during high season), they have also been refurbished. We like the pool at the garden units better and walked over there several times during our stay just to avoid the crowds at the pool by the beach. It will take you a few minutes longer to walk to the beach but the remodeled units are so much nicer than the 2 buildings that haven't been remodeled. They also have a golf cart running back and forth if you don't care to walk.

The best bike paths are in Sea Pines Plantation, and the BEST location to get bikes is just adjacent to the Plantation Club golf course, which is about 200+ yards past the Marriott Monarch Resort (Enter the East Gate of Sea Pines---down from Forest Beach Drive and Marriott Grande Ocean). Monarch is on the left side of the road , and the next road to the RIGHT (Lighthouse Rd. ) is where you want to turn. You'll be AT the Golf Course cart crossing---TURN RIGHT into the parking lot----you will see the bike rental co. at the RED Striped AWNING on the left. They have great bikes and good rates. The BEST thing is that this location allows you to bike the short distance on into Harbour Town, or to South Beach , or back out toward the entrance gate, or to Plantation Rd which goes by the stables. All four of those paths are the best on the island. Each path is out from the center hub of the bike rental co., so you are in a great spot. We return to this bike rental company year after year because of the large selection of bikes, the friendly service, and the LOCATION. You will not regret this selection. (To recap the 4 paths, take any of the three roads out from the parking lot. Lighthouse Rd. will give you 2 of the paths, because Plantation Dr. branches off Lighthouse Rd. just short of entering Harbour Town area. In my opinion, that's the best route to take first....toward Harbour Town, and include Plantation Dr.---it has the prettiest canopy of large oak trees with overhaning moss , and you'll see the stable area at the "end" of the trail.) Enjoy. jme

Thanks for your help. Originally I was not planning on taking their bikes, then thought maybe I should, and now with your help am back to my original position of no. Too much trouble and not enough reason to do it. Thank you.
