Hi everyone, I'm in the process of buying a timeshare with HGVC (8400 points) and I was wondering. Since i'm buying a resale will I still be able to convert those points into RCI points and travel outside of the HGVC? Thanks

Yes you can do rci exchange. The only difference between resale and direct is no elite status with buying resale.

O ok thanks! I was worried that If I buy resale, I wouldnt be able to exchange through RCI. I heard somewhere that they would only allow you to use HGVC properties.

Not true. But you are missing the best part. Join HGVC and now you are using HGVC points thru an HGVC/Rci agent. For a standard 2 bedroom at most HGVC you can trade using only 4800 points and you have a wait list priority. I use it all the time. Oh yes, no 1 in 4 rule to your home resort.

When you book RCI, you do so using Hilton's corporate (b2b) account, not your own. You can book online thru Hilton's RCI portal, and the requisite points are deducted from your account... no advance deposit required. For RCI, the system deducts current-year points first even if its for a stay in a future year (banking your points w/o the banking-fee)... unlike HGVC bookings.

Well yes in theory, however in practice HGVC deposits inventory for the year in April/May the year before. So 2015 inventory was deposited in 2014. You can only book HGVC properties via RCI, as Richard described above, at the 9 month mark. The same internal for all of the Open season inventory. However at that 9 month mark, often a lot of the HGVC is long gone.

As far as waiting list, I am assuming he is referring to On going search. Not sure what else there is for waitlisting within RCI.

I don't like the 9 month restriction either, but that is why I have another account (NON-HGVC) that I can use instead. :whoopie:

So to be clear, booking through RCI I will have to do it 9 months in advance at the earlierst? but booking through HGVC I can do it whenever?

HGVC has access to RCI Points resorts and RCI Weeks resorts. You can only create ongoing searches (OGS) for Weeks. You can create an OGS up to 2 years in advance of checkin. You can book available RCI Points and Weeks inventory anywhere from 2 days up to 10 months out for RCI points inventory and 2 years out for RCI Weeks inventory based on availability. With HGVC inventory in HGVC, you can book home resort/room type at 11 months, any other available HGVC resort at 9 months. You have 3 options for booking RCI -- using current year/next 2 years points (without depositing into RCI), deposit current year or previously Deposited HGVC points into RCI -- which are good for an additional 2 years (so if you deposit in 2014, are good through 2016), or deposit previously Rescued points into RCI, which are only good for an additional year (i.e. through 2015). Rescued points are current year points you rescue by moving into next year before the end of the year. Deposited points are next year points you deposit into the following year before next year (by Dec 31 of this year). Deposited Points have more perks (e.g. the additional year in RCI and ability to book Hilton hotels and Partner Perk reservations), whereas Rescued points have none of these benefits. Considering the fee is the same for Rescuing as Depositing, you are better off always Depositing if you don't know whether you are going to use all of next year's points. You can still borrow them back for current year reservations (both HGVC and RCI). All of this is outlined at http://www.hgvclubprogram.com/resources/club-rules/. Good luck!
