My deed was finally settled, and I have been making plans left and right. So I am looking at the Grand Caymans for 2023 and am looking at Morritts via RCI. There are many different room combos, but for a 2BD via RCI it would only be a "Morritt's Grand 2 BD" option right with no option to upgrade? When I look at the fees in RCI, I get a total of $569 (7 day exchange-$249, Utility surcharge-$40, 2BD nightly fee of $30 for $210, Daily Occupancy tax of $10 for $70) plus the $500 deposit. Did I calc that right? Also I see that HGVC members can exchange into SFX. There is a free membership for 6 months before you get billed, so I signed up to explore this exchange option but it isn't allowing me to see fees to which I sent an email to SFX. If anyone does exchange with SFX, what has your experience been like? Is it cheaper to exchange for Morritt's via SFX? I would like to see what my actual exchange options vs a possible listing and more importantly to know the fees before depositing a week.

How much is the fee? And how do you sign up?

You need to call SFX during their business hours and they can tell you about fees. I wish they were more of a digital operation, but anytime I have talked to them on the phone they have been helpful.

SFX does not let you search the bulk of their inventory on line, you have to call. The only thing on line is leftover 60 day inventory.

I’m wondering why you purchased HGV to trade, there are cheaper ways to trade in RCI. I know HGV doesn’t have locations where you seem to want to travel.

Agree with that. I do not trade HGVC in SFX. Also, after getting HGVC and deciding RCI had quite a bit to offer me ..... I bought a more affordable unit that is a good RCI trader.

Almost always for me, HGVC is not the most efficient way to trade in RCI. However, if you are trading for a high demand week at a high demand place, sometimes the fixed (grid) trading value of HGVC in RCI will work to your advantage.

SFX strong suit, IMO, is Mexico and the overlapping HGV areas.
If you want caribbean, personally I'd use Marriott/II instead, but I believe RCI has some access there as well.

You'll almost certainly need to setup an Ongoing Search to snag anything, IMO, via RCI or Interval.

Don't even know if SFX will have a Morritts in inventory for you. As others mentioned not their sweet spot. Stick to RCI if Grand Cayman is your requirement.

No such thing as "the Grand Caymans"

The Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory, encompasses 3 islands in the western Caribbean Sea. Grand Cayman, the largest island, is known for its beach resorts and varied scuba diving and snorkeling sites. Cayman Brac is a popular launch point for deep-sea fishing excursions. Little Cayman, the smallest island, is home to diverse wildlife, from endangered iguanas to seabirds such as red-footed boobies.

Morritt's Grand 2BR is the largest unit there and they're all ocean front, so there are no upgrades from that.

If anyone would like to vacation at Morritt's Tortuga Club w/o exchanging, contact me by PM.

Ok thanks. Darn was hoping I could easily view everything online without having to call all the time.

Well I didn't purchase HGV to solely trade into RCI. I love the HGV locations we have stayed at and ended up purchasing in Hawaii. What are cheaper ways to trade into RCI? SFx is another trading option for HGVC.

Actually according to their website, they have virtual tours of other sized rooms hence the question.

Can you explain what is a good trader? I am still learning why is SFX a bad option?

That is what I heard for Mexico if you want Grand Luxxe. I am still playing with the systems.

I tried to understand the Marriott/II system. Is the point system as simplistic as HGVC?

When I go in there, I see it listed but as far as availability that I don't know. When playing around in there, it wouldn't let me drill down unless I deposited a week which I didn't want to. Sounds like I need to call in.

Take a look at the Bargain deals forum, people give away RCI traders all the time. Now that Disney moved to Interval, people are dumping RCI resorts. One of the most cost effective is Grandview in Vegas, it can be weeks or points. I don't know anything about Morrits so not sure which it trades better in, points or weeks.

As others have stated, SFX is best for Mexico. I think you can still sign up for a free basic membership direct, without going through the HGV partner program. I have a free membership but haven't booked anything with them in years, don't deposit any of my HGV options, I look at the cash last minute deals.

If you see it listed it is because at some point in time someone has deposited a week from Morritts there, it doesn't mean it gets regular deposits from that source. I personally do not know what Morritts regularly deposits, but I assume that RCI gets more than SFX. As I said not SFX's sweet spot.

Start out slowly. Don't look into II yet. Get to a point where you know your Hilton internal trade options and RCI. Once you have that down pat, then ask about II.

SFX is an antiquated system, in my opinion, but HGVC members seem to have better luck. I have never owned Hilton, thought about it, but I have too much timeshare now to consider that one. I think it's a great product, love the resorts, but I would buy to use the resorts.

This is key. There are so many cheaper options than buying HGVC to use mostly in RCI. The MF’s are generally higher and HGVC adds their own fees on top of the resort fees many of the resorts charge.

Ok yep though I didn't purchase HGV to mainly trade in RCI. I purchased in Hawaii at a place we love and want to go back. I do love all of the HGVC we have visited thus far. Just looking at our options to understand the trading piece and values. Before I purchased, we had a trip booked for the Caymans, COVID struck and we had to cancel everything. Now I am trying to remake plans for this destination in 2023. I also have been trying to understand the Marriott/II system due to possibly getting my in-laws Marriott timeshare.

Actually, according to personal experience and their website https://morritts.com/stay/grand-resort
Built in 2001, Morritt’s Grand Resort is set on a beautiful white sand beach to the east of Morritt’s Tortuga Club.
With a choice of one or two-bedroom oceanfront deluxe suites, including floor plans for as many as eight people, all units in Grand Resort boast uninterrupted, panoramic ocean views and balconies overlooking the beach.

You specifically asked about Morritt's Grand, there is a Virtual Tour of their 1BR and 2BR. There are other buildings that are considered different resorts and have different Virtual Tours.
