We have an even year (studio, 3,520 points) contract. We have only 96 unused 2022 points. We're trying to decide if it's worth the $124 fee to save the points for next year.
If we wanted to stay at a club next year, we could borrow some or all 2024 points without paying a fee. Unless we're missing something, it doesn't seem worthwhile to save only 96 points.
Thoughts?

I agree that that is not enough to save. The value of those points is less than the fee. Maybe look at a representative Open Season rate and see what 96 points would get, and I'm sure it would be less than $124.

Cheers.

I concur. 'Tis better a borrower than as a saver be."

OTOH, I think there's one instance where it may be okay: If you have firm travel plans that are a few points short, you might see the fee as part of the total cost of the trip, and not just for those few points.

I think it's like HHonors conversions: It's a poor use of HGVC points, but I did it once to make a multi-city "all-points" trip work.

You could book something for 2023 in RCI and it would use up those 96 points first.

It doesn't have to be a full week, there are shorter options in RCI if you set the search for 1-6 days length.

You still have a little over a month to search.

As the cost to save points has increased, my desire to pay to save points has decreased.
for our purposes, it just doesn’t make sense to save points and pay their fees unless there is a VERY expensive in points trip we’re planning. The chances that will happen with HGVC isn’t very high for us.

Nope. At the highest valuation possible, points are worth 37 cents each. 96 points $35.52

It's not enough to spend more than a few minutes thinking about it.

I've sat through their time share presentation 2 years ago. We're big Hilton people so it made sense to us, but ultimately didn't buy in.

Timeshares are great, but it's a case by case basis. You have to really do the math and see if it makes sense in the long run. We just bought into Marriotts/Westin timeshare because we like their properties and the cost was cheaper than the Hiltons timeshare. But for us, we are young (under 30), and it will save us $$$$ over our lifetime compared to paying for hotel rooms. Plus our annual maintenance/HOA fee is dirt cheap, less than $500 a year.

While interesting, your post is not germane to this topic.
You might consider buying "resale" to pay 1/3 the price with nearly all the same benefits.
