HGVC Honeymoon

My parents are kindly gifting my fiancé and I a stay using their HGVC points for our honeymoon.

We are looking for a quiet, private honeymoon. In an ideal world, we would like to relax and swim and eat and drink with good service. I’d like to snorkel, and we’re not opposed to *some* adventurous activities. A helicopter tour looks like a once in a lifetime experience! But mostly we would just like to relax.

Originally, I was hoping to churn/rack up enough points to book a private villa or plunge pool room somewhere so we can be private and just fully relax. I understand the HGVC properties won’t have those kinds of amenities with the rooms, but using this gift from my parents would open the door for us to use the points for flights in a premium cabin, and to save more cash we can use for food and activities!

I have been looking at the following properties in Hawaii, but are there any other properties that would be recommended for a honeymoon? Many of the other options look to be too busy/family oriented.

- The Point at Poipu Kauai
- Maui Bay Villas

I am leaning toward the Maui Bay Villas because they appear to be more updated and have a larger pool area and a beach. I understand there is still some construction and would likely still be some construction around our honeymoon (early June 2025). I’ve also seen that people love the Point at Poipu, and have also seen that there are some issues with new construction blocking some views.

Or, am I making the wrong choice going with a HGVC for honeymoon? Should I try to use points/cash instead for a different hotel and just fly economy?

Grand Mayan has plunge pools but that is in Mexico. They are bookable via HGVC.

So your parents are in Max so can book P@P?

If so, there is also Cabo Azul but no plunge pools there. It is nice though. We just stayed at the Waldorf in Cabo and it does. That is the place for your honeymoon but it is either cash, HH points, or Amex free night certificates.... Not HGVC

For Hawaii, others will need to comment. We have stayed on the Big Island and enjoyed it but it just depends on what you like.

Depending on how many points you’re getting, I would recommend HGVC La Pacifca in Cabo. Beautiful resort with multiple pools and beach access. You can rent a pool cabana for a bit of privacy and better service. Lots of options for activities as well. If you plan on staying at the resort, I suggest getting the all inclusive package, especially if you‘re going to drink a lot by the pool.

Edited to add, we were in Kauai in 2021 and were not impressed with how P@P looked from the outside (we didn’t stay there and it was pre Hilton purchase of diamond).

I have stayed at P@P and will second @amirh comment that I would not recommend P@P until they fully renovate. Site and grounds are gorgeous but the interiors are tired.

As another poster mentioned, The Point at Poipu Kauai requires "Max" Access, and may not be bookable under their current plan. It's also nowhere as near as nice of a resort as the Maui Bay Villas.

Barbados could be another option. A lot of those units have private plunge pools. We have not been to that island or resort yet, but from reading up on it, it seems like Barbados would offer several of the activities you are interested in.

Appreciate the comments on P@P!! They do have Max, though admittedly I need to do more research on what that includes. Barbados was one we considered but looked like we would need to call in order to make a reservation there.

Yes, you do have to call to make that reservation.

I have heard this is a good place for things like honeymoons though but pricey flights

We are attending a destination wedding in Cabo right before ours so we probably won’t want to repeat, but thank you for the recommendation!!

never been and don't know where you live but if you canget a decent flight to Barbados, I'd try that as Door #1
also don't know how many times you have been to Hawaii, so P@P might depend on that

Will either by flying from MSP or ORD depending on which date we fly out. I’m taking a first peek at flights for the Barbados option! It would be my fiancés first time in Hawaii. I have been to the big island and Oahu! Ironically both were family vacations at HGVC properties.

I've been to the Crane in Barbados, and the shaded plunge pool was cold. Same with the plunge pools at Windjammer Landing in St. Lucia on an RCI exchange. If you really want a plunge pool at a timeshare, check the reviews for the pool temperature.

We took a fantastic snorkel trip in Barbados to "swim with the sea turtles." It was a wonderful group trip on a large catamaran.
