I am looking to gift a Marbrisa studio to my sister-in-law and her daughter. I am going to be close by at the same time at Grand Pacific Palisades. Do I need to purchase a guest certificate if I can meet her at check-in? Can she provide her own credit card at check-in?

Thanks!

If you can be physically present during check-in, save the GC fee and check them in then give her credit card for room charges and incidentals.

What Seagila said matches the rules and I have done that several times. But i have also had a few resorts, notably Kingsland act like i was breaking the rules and give me a bad time.. Though they did allow us to check my friends in.

I will be there to check-in “myself” but will have her provide the credit card. Although I don’t expect her to trash the place that is still one area I draw the line with family.

And, even if she did, you'd be liable whether it was your credit card or not as the owner-on-record for the reservation. Glad you trust them :)

Cheers.

@RX8, your plan is fine as long as you are certain that you will be nearby when it is time for them to check in. What I always worry about in similar situations is if my arrival (flight) is delayed, and then my friends can't check in because I'm not there and they don't have a guest certificate. I always buy a guest certificate for peace of mind unless I'm arriving at least a day before my friends.

I’m staying at Grand Pacific Palisades (very close to Marbrisa) and will be there before she arrives so all should be good. Thanks!

our friends were more than happy to pay for the guest certificate.

When you purchased a guest certificate, did your friends receive an email? I purchased one for my friend last night and he hasn't received anything from HGV...

No, they should send one automatically but they don’t. And this can’t be done online either. You need to call and tell them to send a confirmation to your friend. I also tell them to send me the guest confirmation as well. You should receive the email within a couple of minutes.

Thanks! Just called them and asked them to email it to me and my friend.

Thats been my experience also, the reservation system never sends out a confirmation, you have to call in to request it. You can view the guest info and print that page from the web site but its not the same format as the reservation confirmation.
