I just returned home from Florida where I attended an HGVC time share presentation. The salesman indicated I needed to be careful buying resale as some HGVC resorts or affiliated resorts if purchased through the resale market limit exchangability. Is there any truth to this comment? As well, there was mention to being able to stay at hilton hotels anywhere in the world at reduced hilton prices if reserved during open season. Does anyone know how open season works? Is open season available if you purchase HGVC thru resale? What about an HGVC affiliated resort, is open season available for them as well? Your knowledge is greatly appreciated...Jeff

My husband and I just purchased HGVC in Orlando and the only thing that you lose by purchasing resale is the ability to gain elite status unless you buy through the Hilton resale department. If you purchase resale through Hilton you can still be eligible for elite status and not pay any more than you would buying resale elsewhere. :)

No, this is not true. Resale has the same exchange availability as developer purchase

No, this is not true. Only HGVC resorts (including HGVC affiliated resorts) are offered for reduced prices during open season.

Does anyone know how open season works?
From the 2006 Member Guide under Club Rules
"The Open Season Reservation Window begins 30 days prior to the check-out date and ends two days in advance of check-in date."
"Open Season Reservation are two night minimum reservations made during the Open Seasons Reservation Window at any accomodations available in the Club using club Points or paying the HGVCLub Open Season rental rate"

See HGVC under TUG advice for more info - http://www.tug2.net/advice/hgvc.htm

Yes, but unlike when you buy HGVC, the affiliated resort owners must join HGVC and pay dues to HGVC to get the benifits of membership in HGVC.

hope that helps
