HGVC Borrow Points Issue

One challenge of borrowing points from the next year is that HGVC does NOT allow you to choose what contract to borrow from (like Disney does) and that can impact home resort booking for ALL properties, especially if you own multiple resorts.

Does anyone know how to borrow from a specific contract or resort vs allowing "the system to choose"?

I also called member services, but they said to book the home resort to lock it in before borrowing points, but that really is not the best as I am not ready to choose my home resort dates yet.

As long as you have enough points in your bucket to cover your HW, it will work. It doesn't matter where the points come from.

The only issue in this area that I am aware of is the use of bHC points for a reservation that may prevent you from booking your Home week at that resort. Otherwise as @HuskerATL states, points are points.

I gess I am used to the DVC system of choosing how to use, bank, or borrow your points as they are separated by contract. I find the HGV system of borrowing very sloppy as nobody can tell e where the points are coming from and I dont want to take a change I lose my home booking week for Park City or Hawaii as I really dont care about Las Vegas home week. In other words, I wanted my points to be borrowed only from my las vegas contracts, not Park City or Hawaii.

As stated above, it doesn't matter. Unlike DVC, you have a pool of points to borrow from. It's not resort specific.
When you book your home week, the system simply checks to see if you have the required full allotment of points within the same use year.
NOTE: Borrowed points may not be used to make a Home Week reservation

For example, the system will automatically reflect which resorts are no longer available for home week booking based on your remaining point balance by use year. It doesn't know which resort you'll choose based on the remaining number of points. It only knows what is no longer eligible based on your remaining balance.

I also called member services, but they said to book the home resort to lock it in before borrowing points, but that really is not the best as I am not ready to choose my home resort dates yet.
If it's a bHC issue then simply make a reservation as a temporary placeholder before borrowing points. After you've completed your reservation requiring borrowed points, cancel your temporary bHC reservation.

Reminder, you can cancel a home week or home resort reservation without penalty 31 days before checkin.
NOTE: bHC owners who opt-out of the all-inclusive club dues may forfeit their reservation fee (see table below).

I don't see it as sloppy (maybe lazy or unsophisticated), all of the HGVC are in one bucket of points and the bHC points are in a separate bucket. You can just think that you are only borrowing from your LV contracts then. As @HuskerATL has stated, as long as you have sufficient HGVC correct year points available and haven't booked that HW, the HW will be available for booking.

Really, it's actually more flexible than DVC since, as noted, points are points. No need to work out the details like DVC.

Cheers.

I heard that DVC has an easy software solution to exchange pts. I wish that HGVC would have an easy method to exchange yearly points.

I am wondering what did you mean by this? I own DVC and am wondering what you mean "a software solution to exchange points"?

Some method that DVC can swap out points instead of our method to cancel and rebook (this is what I have heard, so no personal knowledge).

This can be done by calling but, AFAIK, it's a "favor" like it is with HGVC.

Cheers.

ok, I just thought HGVC points were resort specific like DVC, but because I am paranoid, I booked my home week at Park City (actually today was the first day to lock in next year) so timing was perfect. Then I booked Central at 5th with borrowed points. So it all worked out.

I know HGVC may actually be simpler than DVC, but because i have been a DVC member 20 years, it is hard to understand that points go into a bucket and mix all home resorts with others.

I can use all my points right now and the HWs would not be available any longer. If I go out and buy another deed right now with enough associated points, then the HWs of my existing deeds would become available again..... Just a bucket of points.

I get the concept, but Park City ski week points are way more valuable than Las Vegas Summer points. But I agree that the HGVC system is simpler and just wondering if people game the system somehow.

I also find it interesting that you can buy insurance for about $100 per reservation and cancel one day out and get all your points back. Disney would never allow that.

The system is nothing but a game.... That is the fun.... To see how you can maximize it with minimal cost
