I just want to share my experience with HGV. Last week my husband and I purchased a timeshare in Carlsbad CA while we were on vacations. The presentation was very well done and without second guessing we signed the contract.

Immediately I started to have buyers remorse. Then, I started reading all negative experiences people have had with timeshares and I panicked! As soon as we got home (3 days after the purchase) I looked into all the paperwork they gave us and found the right of cancellation notice. I filled it out and faxed it to the number provided. The state of CA gives you 7 calendar days to cancel your timeshare after you sign the contract.

I just received an email from the quality assurance manager, they will refund 100% of the deposit within 10 days.

I’m so glad we were able to cancel within the Grace period. I feel so dumb, I can’t believe committed to that timeshare. It was a money trap.

Congrats on getting out of a retail purchase before it was too late. Timeshares work for many (folks on this board are proof of that), but resale is definitely the way to go.

Cheers.

Resale is the way for sure. Plenty out there to buy.

First off, congratulations on saving big bucks!

There are no doubt lots of negative experiences to be found on the internet. Most of those are going to be timeshare owners that overpaid by tens of thousands of dollars by buying direct. Some of these same owners are likely so mad that they don’t even use what they have. Of course they are going to be angry.

Don’t give up on timeshares so fast. Something at the presentation peaked your interest. Having a timeshare can lead to many family vacation memories at costs cheaper than renting. The secret is to buy a timeshare right, both in location and as cheaply as possible.

Now that you successfully rescinded, do your homework. Read TUG forums, ask questions of the many experienced members, maybe even rent a timeshare from an owner (check out the last minute bargain rentals).

You’ve already saved money. If you follow my advice above, and use TUG to the max to educate yourself to the point where you are now a savvy timeshare buyer, you could always return the favor and support TUG by becoming a member for only $15.

That’s good that they acknowledged the faxed documents. I though only certified mail works.

Hi,

I just came back from a presentation (from the exact same resort 🤫) and feeling the exact same way. I was actually so intrigued by the presentation and it kinda made sense, I actually tried to do some quick math on how much I'd be saving with the points as opposed to using Hilton Honors and it checked out - for context - I just started traveling and want to go to all the big touristy places but also occasionally love the idea of being able to book a fancier hotel or resort cheaper. But maybe it was the pressure, the final sale number never really made sense but I caved. I just back from my vacation - which was an offer tied to the presentation, I really should have done research before going blindly, and would like to cancel.

But the notice of cancellation Fax Number says "See Purchase Agreement", and I might just be tired or sad from all I've read on how buying directly from Hilton was a bad move but I don't see a number on the cancellation, do you happen to have the fax number you used? Or can anyone help me with one?

Okay, so I found it. 2 clarifications for anyone in this same pickle:
  • This is HGVC not HVC as far as I can tell.
  • Resort is Carlsbad Seapointe Resort
Seller is Grand Pacific Carlsbad, L.P., fax is (760) 893-8532.

P.S. I am so glad I found this website when I did, my 7 days is up in 2

There are plenty of ways to enjoy timeshare without even buying one. I utilize a lot of the 4 day / 3 night stays that a lot of resorts advertise (with a pesky presentation, but close to free after receiving the gift card). For weeks, I book rooms on afvclub.com and go.travelandleisure.com. Those sites pull directly from RCI. I just booked a 2-bedroom in Palm Springs, CA for $399 for the whole week.

This is amazing, I just posted a different thread on this topic and saw your msg. Thank you so much. Palm Springs or Scottsdale are my ideal destination or somewhere like Hawaii or Florida (stayed at Mystic Dunes once) so this is perfect. Please keep the tips coming

congrats on finding TUG in time to save a fortune! hope you turn that savings into some amazing vacations.
