Hi there

We are no longer able to go to our usual Westin Lagunamar weeks in August. I'd booked two weeks in a 1 bed using my Marriott points. I can convert back to use year 2025 points, but I am also wondering about renting the weeks out.

Anyone have any suggestions about where to rent and how easy it is? I'm a long term owner but I've never rented my weeks or a week booked with points.

Thanks in advance

Radley

If this is your home resort or home options reservation, you should be able to rent. If you reserved via star options or Abound points, rules disallow renting the reservation.

To rent, most people use redweek.com and https://www.go-koala.com

You can post in both concurrently. Also worth posting on Facebook groups that are for Vistana and Abound renting.

Also review: Thread 'How to Rent out Your Timeshare - Timeshare Rental Guide for Owners!' https://tugbbs.com/forums/threads/how-to-rent-out-your-timeshare-timeshare-rental-guide-for-owners.43/

Thank you so much. I didnt know about the Facebook groups. I will check that out.

I used Marriott Destination Club points for my booking. I've assumed that I could rent the reservations but I will check that out.
Thanks

Jay

I don't think the rental rate you could get for Westin Lagunamar in August will be worth it for you. I'd personally, cancel and bank the points (if they are 2025 points).

Good luck!

II has WLR getaways listed for late August at $697 in a studio. The 1 bedroom is worth more, but it is noteworthy that the II getaway has checkin days available all month, which suggests you may be up against a supply demand issue.

You CAN rent if you wish because you can rent a unit booked with abound or “club points “. You couldn’t rent if you would have booked using star options.

Having said that, I agree that I don’t think it would be worth renting if you can reuse the points.

You can rent any type of unit. The question is, is it a violation of the terms & conditions. Both the VSN and Abound terms technically restrict renting a reservation made with StartOptions or Club Points.

Dioxide, I know that there is clear language saying no renting of star option reservations. But, I believe the language for abound or club points reservations is different. I’m traveling so I don’t have access to where I’ve saved all of the language. But, my recollection is that there is language allowing the rental of time secured using abound points. I respect your opinion and experience. So, if I’m off base please correct me.

This is the language as it applies to Abound Club Points reservations.

This is the verbiage for StarOption reservations.

I am home now and returning to this thread. I can't locate my file with the language I pulled. So, I searched TUG more thoroughly. I found a 2023 thread where SueDonJ stated that the terms of the Abound points documents explicitly state that reservations using points can be rented. Coincidentally, in that same thread, you kind of imply the same by asking a poster to point out where the points docs state you can't rent out Trust/enrolled point reservations.

A different thread includes the following language that does seem to state that renting reservations made using points is OK. (I'm frustrated that I can't find my file . . . ).

I'm not exactly sure where that verbiage is coming from. I can't find it in the recent exchange procedures. I am also not aware of any situation where MVC has requested to see a rental or lease agreement. Rentals are generally fine until they border upon commercial activity. The verbiage I highlighted above comes from the Abound Exchange Procedures which govern point exchange reservations.

"commercial purpose" is up to MVC to define.

I found this page by typing "enrollment" into the search in my MVC account, hope it is what you were looking for:

Thank you Hindsite. I followed your instructions and read the document. The only relevant language that I see is the prohibition on commercial activity. Perhaps I missed something as I didn't read every word on every page. Perhaps that is the only relevant language pertaining to renting time that is reserved using points?
