I am considering a 1 bdrm/sleep 6 using SFX $399 bonus week for my son and d-i-l and 3 small grandchildren. The last reviews are very dismal but are also from 2002.

Could those who have recently stayed give a more updated opinion of the resort? Shell Vacation Club is on the premises and I can't imagine them not having nice accommodations. I think Fairfield is also in there?

Before I spend $399 for the week, I would really appreciate some more updated info.

P.S. This is for a Nov 2007 week other than Thanksgiving week.

TIA
Jan

Look at TripAdvisor.com for more reviews (and much more recent) of Peacock Suites.

I've never stayed at Peacock Suites but I live nearby and I've looked into accomodations there before for visiting relatives. The rooms are converted hotel rooms with a mini-bar, more or less, so it's going to be small. Six people will be very tight, but since 3 are small children I would guess it's manageable. You also need to pay for parking ($8 per night) - a ripoff IMHO, but other hotels in the area do the same. On the plus side, there's an indoor pool if I remember correctly.

There's really nothing nearby, save for a 7-11, Del Taco, and closed nightclub (at least I think it's still closed) across the street. Another block toward Disneyland is the new Worldmark resort under construction, then a block past that is more construction for a new shopping/dining area (Garden Walk). You'd definitely need to take the local shuttle system (ART) to Disneyland at about $3 per day per adult.

All in all, though, it's probably ok for the price you're getting. Just keep in mind that's its more like a hotel than a timeshare condo. The Fairfield you mentioned is at Dolphin's Cove, which is a converted apartment complex and would be much roomier than Peacock Suites.

$399 is a bargain for the week, considering the location near Disneyland.

We stayed there in February of 2004. It was very hotel-like. The interior of the living room was a little dreary and dark, with brown carpet and brown sofa. It had a small table and chairs, paper plates and some plastic silverware, a very small bar-sized refrigerator and a microwave. There is a TV in the living room, but it is in the same cabinet as the refrigerator and microwave and is small.

The bedroom didn't have a closet, just a wardrobe. It had one bathroom and two queen-sized beds. The bedroom was not bad, the beds were comfortable and we slept fairly well. The timeshare tour is pretty high pressure. I would never agree to a Shell presentation again after that.

I think $399 is an amazing deal. I didn't like the resort that much, but it is so much better than the Best Western close by, which cost $89 a night + taxes.

Thank you both for the information. I've taken Peacock Suites off my list as the kitchen part is important to my son/family. Not so much for dinner, but for the breakfasts before Disneyland. I'm sure they could make due, but with 7 days, they decided to keep looking elsewhere.

There wasn't even a sink in the one bedrooms. We took our protein shakes to have for breakfast, and there was no blender! It was disappointing. Very much like a motel, really. We went into the 3 bedroom they were showing on the Shell tour and it was nicer, but still no kitchen at all, just that microwave and bar-sized fridge. I was not impressed with the 3 bedroom, because it was still three hotel rooms put together in an "L" configuration. But it was brighter and prettier, which made it better than the dreary living room in our unit. The models are always better. :)

Finding a decent price on a room that can accomodate 6 people with a kitchen is going to be a tall order. You might look into Extended Stay America, on Clementine St, next to Katella Ave. It should be around $70-$85 per night that time of year. Unfortunately, I don't think they have any 2 BD so you'd have to rent 2 rooms. There are other suites hotels in the area (Embassy, Residence Inn, Marriot off the top of my head), but those are going to be quite expensive, and I'm not sure if they have a real kitchen or just a minibar. You might also try vrbo.com or another comparable site to get a private rental.
