My little niece just mailed us "Flat Stanley" (a colored drawing of a boy).
The letter she wrote tells us that she is reading a book about Flat Stanley who travels to California.

For a school project she had to chose one person to send Flat Stanley to & have them take pictures with him at various places. I have to send the pictures to her teacher at school. I think they want to suprise the little 3rd graders with all the places that Stanley went.

I'm going to scan him in the computer and like to have fellow tuggers take pic's of him at different places. Maybe a historic sight near you, with you on vk, with someone famous, etc.

Who will help? I'd like to get this project going as I want to suprise her with a lot of places.

We have done this before with nieces and nephews. It is lots of fun. If you can send and recieve the pics via email and do not need to have them by snail mail we might be able to give you an international flair as well. Send me a PM for more details.

I will take Flat Stanley with me and take pictures of him around here in Southern California. Just PM me and I will send you my address.

We could take Flat Stanley to Orlando and round the theme parks, if you can send him as an email attachment. I could get some of home before we go (26 October). How old's your niece, I have an 8 y.o. daughter who I'm sure would take good care of Stanley

That might be overkill. This is a popular activity in US schools, and the fun is one person passing on the original Stanley to someone they know. Eventually Stanley is supposed to return to the school. The teachers usually post the cards for all to see. If a classroom has 25 students, that is many postcards coming in and there is at least a personal connection to the senders, if they mention how they received the original. Trust me, Stanley will get around the world via the classmates.

I'm afraid if I pass the original Stanley he will be lost or misplaced. My niece is 7 and the note says to send the pic's to her teacher. (you can send them to me & I'll send them in). I thought it would be fun for the class & my niece to see how far her Stanley can go.

I'll email or snail mail whoever wants to play.

Thanks,

Cathy

Flat and staying that way

I was tickled when I read your post, so did a search. I found www.flatstanley.com and printed it (him?) out. We are leaving for Eastern Europe tomorrow, so who knows, he may find himself in a few pictures. Our grandurchins are in and approaching the magic 3rd grade where Flat Stanley shows his well-traveled face.

Thanks for the heads-up. We are always looking for ways to include our far-away-living progeny in our lives and vice versa.

My daughter did Flat Stanley last year (2nd grade). We sent him to my sister in Georgia, who is a manager at a fast food restaurant. My sister made Stanley a name tag, took pics of him being the Fry Guy, working the cash register, cleaning tables, etc.

I think Stanley is more fun for the lucky adult who gets him than the school children!

"that infernal bear"

our kids on the Isle of Man have a similar custom. Each class has a teddy bear which is given to one child in the class each evening or weekend. The child has to take it home and then write a 'diary' of what the bear did to read out to the class next day, younger kids just draw a picture instead.
Having had two children go thorugh the primary school system here I am well and truly sick of the infernal bear and having to think of something more exciting than we-watched-spongebob-and-had-tea-and-went-to-bed to put in its diary.
And if you are very (un)lucky your child gets to the bear to take away on vacation. We have taken Ballaquayle Bear to Centerparcs, Smugglers Notch (summer and skiing), London, Paris/disneyland, Dublin, Spain (several times) and Grandmas-for-Christmas.
For child number one, it was sufficient for the bear to send a postcard/photograph back to school. For child number two I was expected (by child, not by school!) to write a detailed daily diary, with copious accompanying photos. I just hope the class appreciated my efforts!

I'll play. We took a picture of Flat Stanley in front of the capitol building in Montgomery Alabama.

I took the colored picture from the web site and had it blown up a bit at a print shop. (Where was Kinko's when we needed it?) We almost passed out from the fumes. I had to go outside.

I hope DH will get it from the camera and to the computer soon.

You have email from me.

Thank you so much. Great picture. I'm realizing now that our "Flat Stanley is different". I sent you an email. I took a pic with the digital camera.

If anyone wants a pic of it, I can email it.

Thanks

star's using flat stanley too

I just saw Denise Richards in a magazine holding a Flat Stanley for Carmen Electra god son. (I guess Carmen E gave it to Denise to have a pic taken somewhere).

It's funny to see how many people have been exposed to flat stanley.
