If I have 1000 points left for 2013, and 7000 for 2014, in June could I reserve a 2 bedroom in Hawaii for March 2013? I'm not sure if the borrowing a year ahead applies to when you make the reservation or when the trip actually is.

Does that make sense?

We will be traveling with 2-3 teenager girls--which resort makes the most sense? They will want pool time, close to a beach. None of us golf.....

Thanks!

In June 2012 you will make a reservation for March 2013. The system will first use the 1000 points from 2013 and then borrow the rest from 2014. Assuming you're getting a regular 2bdrm you'll have 0 points left in 2013 and 1000 points left in 2014.

I think this is what you were asking.

I would definitely stay at either the Bay Club or HGVC at Waikoloa Beach.

So I can reserve in 2012 using 2014 points? Yep, probably a regular 2 bedroom since I think the premier is 8400 points and I would be a little short.

Thank you!!!!

If you want to use the big pools at the Waikoloa Beach hotel, don't reserve at The Bay Club. The other TS areas, Kingsland and Kohala (HGVC at Waikoloa) allows hotel pool access.

Not sure how much nicer the insides of the units are between the three areas.

Bay Club units are significantly bigger than Kohala units. Both are on the golf course, and neither is within walking distance of the beach (unless you REALLY like to walk). There is a shuttle which makes regular trips to the beach.

Kohala units include the ability to use the Hilton pools; BC does not (you can purchase entry to the Hilton pools, although some say that you won't be challenged anyway).

With three teenagers, I would probably opt for the Bay Club. The location is "equal" and the size favors BC.

BC units have also been completely redone (not sure if they are all finished yet, but they should be soon), and they look beautiful.

We own at BC, but we usually stay @ Kohala because we can't be guaranteed a top floor unit @ BC, and my wife finds the noise problematic.

FYI, there are a couple of times during the year (May and September/October) where you can get a 2BR @ Kohala on the top floor (premiere) for 7000 points.

I would choose a property with access to the Hilton resort's pool and lagoon. Wild sea turtles come into the lagoon everyday and "swim" with the hotel guests. You are not allowed to touch them, but swimming beside them or watching them from a kayak or paddleboard is an incredible experience hard to find elsewhere. My son loved it. Also the hotel rents snorkle gear, kayaks, paddleboards ect. and has a nice lunch spot close to the main pool and lagoon. Kings Land is really nice. I have not visited the other two properties.

Fees due

Depending on your resort, you may have to pony up your maintinance fees for 2014 in 2012 in order to make this reservation.
