I traded a 1 bdrm Vistana for the free upgrade promo of a 2 bdrm Grand Chateau with May 31 check-in earlier this year. The upgrade was only good until May 31.

It is now May 4, I am now within 30 days of check-in (Ugh...I am traveling internationally and forgot about this trade), I paid for E-Plus and the system appears to allow me to trade but wants to charge me for a room upgrade beyond May 31(which makes sense).

I need to park this reservation until my desired E-Plus booking comes available. Is the fact I am E-plus within 30 days causing me issues?

Your thoughts on how best to fix would be much appreciated cc @dioxide45, @GrayFal

Final question: In general I am now noticing that some resorts are now charging upfront for resort fees and taxes e.g. Marriott I'lle de France (tax) and non Marriott resorts. Will I be refunded when I EPLus out of that resort and do not stay there?

If you aren't using the App, see what happens when you use the App, it can give different results.

Its not an up-front fee, its an estimate of the taxes or resort fees that you will be charged if you stay there. e.g MVF is Tourist taxes and not chargeable until you check out.

I tried to do a free retrade on the app and got an error. Following to see if others have this issue.

This - I tried to EPlus 58 days before check in and the website only allowed a trade 59 days past the current check in.
I had different results using the app.

However when I try to trade for a studio or 1 bdrm MGC or other property for later this year it appears to be free under E-Plus, but when I try to book a different property for a 2 bdrm it wants to charge me for the room upgrade plus another $199 exchange fee.

I need to park this reservation until my desired E-Plus booking comes available. Is the fact I am E-plus within 30 days causing me issues? e.g. If I move to a 1 bdrm Eplus to park for this fall (free with E-Plus) will I have issues later when I need to ePlus into my final destination within 1 year of the first trade? Will I be required to pay for a new exchange just to upgrade to a 2 bedroom again?

It looks like they may have done some "enhancements" to the retrade and EPlus system when they made some other changes recently. In the past, once upgraded, they didn't charge again for an upgrade on a retrade. Though perhaps that is because of the date restrictions on the upgrade promotions. Right now you are restricted to 59 days beyond checkin for any Eplus retrades.

30 days really shouldn't apply with EPlus. EPlus still has the old 59 day rules. Once inside 59 days you can retrade up to 59 days beyond the current checkin date. This can then ultimately restrict you to only being able to retrade out about 6 months. (59 days at a time for three Eplus retrades.) Try and do the retrade on the app as you may be able to Eplus retrade outside the 59 day restriction.

Glad I found this. So hypothetically on this EPlus trade, I could keep book 3 times and take the farthest date out if we cannot make our current trip? Check-in is on 6/20 so the farthest I can go out now is 8/18. So I could grab farthest thing out I could find like 8/18 and then repeat process if I want something in the fall? Assume I should try and match size of unit and quality? Thanks!

Yes, you have it correct. Once you have exhausted all retrades you can then wait and cancel 31+ days in advance and get a cancellation replacement good until 12 months after the day you cancel. You would probably be looking to cancel sometime in early October 2026. You can actually do all three retrades now. You don't need to wait as with Eplus the retrades are good for 59 days past the checkin date of the current trade.

Matching size and quality doesn't really matter as the underlying deposit is what really matters.

ok, thank you. This is first time I had purchased as we weren't 100% sure on our trip. Glad I did, but naturally this trip kind of imploded during Flexchange. But still good to know I can extend and shoot for something in the fall. Thanks again.
