TUG Friends,

Last year we visited Maui for our best friends' wedding and got roped into our first timeshare presentation ("Wouldn't you love to come back? We will give you this great deal!")

One year later, we are finally going this weekend… Anything I should ask? :whooopie: Not that they will actually answer any real questions, they will "follow up with their manager" like the HGVC folks from Elara last month... haha!

Don't worry, I've spent 30+ hours on this site, there's no way I am buying developer… but since we got what I felt was a great deal at Marriott Maui Ocean Club ($899 for 5 nights), I figured we should go have ourselves a great vacation and "enjoy" our 90 minute presentation!

Ask what your resale value would be if you decided to get out in 5 to 10 years

I wouldn’t ask I would tell....this past year I became a member of tug. I figured out buying resale is for me but I was obligated to come to this presentation. Sorry.

I would ask them when you'll get to exchange into Westin resorts.......Hyatt resorts......

Bring back your answers....I could use a good laugh!!!

Is MVCI looking at Vistana Signature Experiences www.vistana.com (Starwood's timeshare spin-off - Sheraton Vacation Club and Westin Vacation Club) for acquisition?

Why the heck am I doing this?

Not sure I understand this question, since it is already a done deal.

If you read here enough, there is nothing you can really learn at a sales presentation. Their news is usually a few steps behind what we learn here and their goal is to sell you points, nothing more nothing less. There isn't really anything that they can answer that we can't. Anything about the merger that they may talk about now is pure speculation. The sales staff rarely has any true inside information.

The best question may be, "Do I really need to stick around 90 minutes to get my gift and get out of here?"

My question last month was, given that I can buy what I want on Redweek for $X right now, why would it be to my advantage to buy from you? Then, when they are done, you respectfully say, I appreciate those benefits, but I don't think, at least for me, they are worth the increased cost, so I'm going to pass.

Because Marriott is all about selling DC points, you can short circuit them quite a bit by telling them you have no plans and do not expect to go anywhere but X. For me, that was Maui. That takes all the sales-pitch about all the places you can go right off the table. If they start on that you say, that means nothing to me. And you can REALLY kill them by telling them that, for you, the MOST important thing is the price. You're going to buy from whatever source gives you the lowest price. Then ask if they can match $X.

We attended an update at Maui Ocean Club last week. Over the presentation was pretty low key, I could almost say pleasant..

Our sales guy stated the MVC integration with Vistana was a tip priority and we should expect an announcement on how that will work in the next month or two. As for Hyatt, he said that would take much longer as Hyatt Hotel corp is not happy with the idea of MVC marketing Marriott brand to Hyatt customers. He claimed the licensing agreement for ILG use of the Hyatt name ends next year, so worse they rebrand those properties and then integrate.

As always hard to really know how accurate any of this is. I would not be surprised if they make some sort of initial announcement about MVC and Vistana in the next few months..

Thanks.

I would be very surprised if an integration/trade policy was announced in the year (or 5).

That would be very interesting since several Hyatt timeshares share facilities with a neighboring Hyatt hotel property.

I agree, and I am sure many Hyatt owners purchased at least partially based on the affiliation with Hyatt. This would undoubtedly create a lot of negative backlash. I would have also expected the licensing agreement to last longer as well. If i recall right, I think Hilton and HGVC have a 30 year agreement, though its supposed to automatically cancel if they sell the company to another hotel based company.

ask when do they plan to change the post 2010 resale weeks enroll for free? Haha

Set your cell phone timer to the number of minutes YOU must attend 'the presentation'. And set a 2nd timer for 5 minutes later. Don't feel you have to hide this timing function.

PS One trick the timeshare salesmen have tried on me in the past is, that waiting or getting settled or eating their food is not time they will count towards "the presentation time". ASK .. "does this time count as 'presentation' time?" When they say, "No" ... say, you have a tour picking you UP at the 2 hour mark of the 90 minute tour AND since your planned for Lunch to be included, you won't have time now to attend their tour and get lunch elsewhere. And get up and leave ... the salesman is now the "last man" on the assignment sheet for a new tour ... she/he will try to not let you go ... but I would bet your tour will be 90 minutes with the lunch time included.

re: Hyatt. Many licensing contracts have a provision that enables the brand to back out if there is a significant ownership change. Perhaps this is why Hyatt can end the arrangement next year.

This merger benefits MVC and Marriott/SPG much more than it benefits Hyatt hotels so not surprised that they want out.

Ask them to show you that you can book right now through DC points the exact week (location and dates) that YOU CHOOSE, based on where you typically or want to travel. Then have them show you exactly how much it will cost per week (over a 20 year amortization), including upfront costs and annual MF for that week, and then have examples for that exact week to book on Marriott.com or Redweek, etc.
At least it will kill 30 minutes.

I like that..... There is no answer for this because its relatively impossible.
