Thanks Lynn: I am often on the Trip Adviser Hawaii Forum. Some of the comments there are incredible in their entiltlement. I learned from island residents about local customers, how to to avoid interfering with locals going about their lives. I learned useful information about language, customs and so on. There were two ladies in particular who were destination experts who finally got fed up with those who were entitled and quit the forum. Our loss.

When we moved here (rural Big Island) 15 years ago, we learned to slow down, respect our neighborhood, kupuna and understand that the lifestyle here is about family. We are auntie and uncle to all children we meet and get used to waiting at the post office since everyone is related through this small community and 'talk story' can go for quite a few minutes while everyone catches up on the local events.

This is paradise for us and would not trade it for anything else. Living back on the mainland with traffic and crowds became a thing of the past.
