I am also looking for flights for this summer. But to Oahu Aug 25- sept 1, went to kayak.com this am and saw the best price I have seen yet, $327PP on ATA (from Lax). I have never flown ATA and am not sure how the flight is.
Last yr we went to Kauai from Lax and paid $422PP over the same week. Those tickets we booked 2 weeks out.
Have you checked Kayak.com? Also I have had some success with a site called Airtohawaii.com and prior to my siting today pleasant holidays had a decent rate for air and car. Hope this helps.
Do you think I should grab the ATA flight? Anyone have experience with this Airline? I won't fly Hawaiian at any price, been there to uncomfortable and crapped will ATA be the same?
I booked SFO-KOA-HNL-SFO 8/25-9/8 for $608 pp. After my experience of waiting last year and paying $800+ pp out of SFO-KOA, I jumped on it. The lowest fare I have seen out of SFO was 577 pp for the same route this year. It may drop, but my experience with summer fares is they continue to climb. Yet another great reason to travel in shoulder season!
I flew ATA a couple of years ago. They're fine. We had no problems. ATA no longer flys out of SFO. If I could fly out of Oakland it would have been about 400 pp.
ATA has maybe a little more knee room than they have to, but expect to be on a nearly full plane. Take your own headset to hear the movie for free, a snack or two to nibble, and the knowledge that the flight will be over when you get to paradise.
I have not flown on ATA either but the price is right. We paid a total (inc fees taxes) $427 per person RT for first week July to last week of July return LAX - OGG non-stop direct. However they only fly to LIH out of Oakland.
With young kids I will always take a non-stop direct flight even if a bit cramped instead of changing planes somewhere. We shall see how it goes.

We just booked LAX to HNL for $317 for our 4/22-5/6 trip. We have FF miles from Denver to LAX that we seem to never be able to book where we want, which is Orlando.
We are going to Lihue via GO from there, then back for a week's stay at the new Fairfield Waikiki Beachwalk, then home. I loved that our flight home is in the morning. We will be home in the evening, all the way back to Denver.
Use Sidestep to check airfares every day. I have had incredible luck.
Dave, have you checked with Pleasant Holidays? I booked our March trip to Oahu last August, and the airline fares were awful. I got UAL flights through PH, plus 2 nights at Resort Quest in Waikiki for $1107, total. It seems you have to book a minimum of 2 nights with them, but we decided to sacrifice ourselves. I know there are times when you can catch those super cheap fares, but they never seem to be there when we need to go. Good luck, Jean
ATA is awesome and cheap from Ontario. I've flown them a few times now. It was not peak travel time, but it was good and cheap. You have to pay for everything. Don't forget your quarters for the restrooms. LOL. They wanted to charge me for a blanket. They charge for snacks.
