Has anyone used this type of beach tent?

We are going to Westin Nanea and we are wondering if we should bring a beach tent with us. We have not bought it yet, we are looking at this model. Has anyone used this model (or a similar one) ? My understanding is that they are allowed on the beach, I have a sensitive skin and I cannot stay too long in the sun. We are going to be 5 or 6 so renting palapas at the resort for 10 days will be rather expensive.

Alternatively I think we can rent beach equipment and that there are locations around the hotel. Any recommendations?

We were on Santa Rosa Beach Florida (Pan Handle area) for the past 2 weeks and saw a number of these in use. They seemed like they provided a lot of shade and the first week we were there it was really kind of windy so I think they held up better in the wind than a regular four corner tent. I will mention that you will need to check (you said they are allowed).....we were truly shocked at how much "PRIVATE BEACH" was now posted / sectioned out (those things take up even more room than the regular "tents"). Some areas were seriously compressed into much smaller "public" beach access areas; this was not like this a few years ago!

Yes, this is my other concern, I do not want people to feel I am taking too much space. At the same time, we are going to be 5 or 6 so 2 or 3 umbrellas would probably not take less space.

By law, all Hawaii beaches are public, and compared to mainland beaches, Maui beaches are wide open, and no one will think you are taking up too much space.

Apparently there was a law passed in Florida in 2018 that has seriously changed beach access and usage. I was really surprised when we visited Siesta Key a few months ago.....I didn't realize hotels/resorts could put up signs designating the beach as "theirs" (I'd never been to a beach like that). Now in Santa Rosa Beach we were shocked to return to a beach we used to visit.....there was literally 30' of "public access" in one area....the rest of the beach had "private beach" signs.....and we were informed the "private" area actually extends INTO the water! (we did some research and according to the internet (LOL)....we read that the police or sheriff will not respond or arrest you if you are appropriately using the beach area....ie a chair & umbrella or fishing quietly.....but the signs were put out each morning....and most people obeyed and stayed off the areas marked "private".

Yes, we have one, love it, and take it with us on all beach vacations. Used it in St. Maarten, West Palm Beach, and just recently in Gulf Shores, AL, when we spent hours on a deserted beach area in full sun. You will find it a bit of a challenge to use on a windy day, however.

Yes, we have used this type of beach tent for the past four beach Vacations and love it! They are so easy to put up/take down. We bought the 7x7 and it is perfect for two. Also, from what we read and now agree with is four poles are a must, you don’t always need them but I can only think of once we only used two. This style so far as been our best try for shade.....we have tried everything except for the Shibumi Shade.....needs a nice breeze and it is more $$$, but sure looks easy to install, we have seen a few and are intrigued by it.

We also use a similar one when we go to Hawaii. DD and SIL have one also, so we set them up side by side and have plenty of room.

As noted above, they can be tricky when it breezy, the curved surface acts exactly like a wing as the breeze moves across it. So on a breezy day it wants to take off, Be sure that you have very good anchors.

That is what my friend purchased when she moved to Southport NC. She loves it! But to me, it takes up a very large area. Says It provides shade 10x15, enough for 6 people. https://shibumishade.com/products/shibumi-shade

Got one a few years ago. Not as easy to set up as advertised. The wind and direction of the sun have a effect on it's usefulness. Windy days, well you can imagine what happens.
The direction of the sun, like anything it casts a shadow and in our case the best way to be in shade, the longest time, would be to have the ocean at your back. It is compact and fits into my carry on easily. We were on a private uncrowded portion of the beach it does take up some space, support cables and all. Still not sure I would buy another.
