Has anyone used the rental car discount which is part of Destination Club benefits?

I saw that there up to 35% discount on Avis rental. Is it worth it to pursue a rental through Marriott or do others find there are better comparable?

Generally you will find other rates that are better. It certainly doesn't hurt to look, but I have never found them to be very good rates. I suspect these rate codes have a commission built in that goes back to Marriott.

Like many hotel “discounts”, it’s off the rack rate, or 35% off a rate that’s never charged. We’ve looked a few times but not recently. The rates were ridiculous compared to just going straight to the source. Typically we find the best deals through Costco. Sam’s Club also has a rental car section, but I’ve never been able to price them out as we don’t have a membership.

I suspect most of the discounts attributed to Destinations Club membership are available elsewhere. There is a tendency to "puff up" the benefits of these programs. For example, you probably do get cleaner air and more sunshine at Destination Club reservations, but it isn't listed "yet."
