We have been contacted, and actually are considering selling our Mexican Vidanta TS. They seem to have good reviews, but I thought I'd check with TUGGERS - for input. Thanks so much.

If you do a search for SMTN, you'll find plenty of info on them. Basically: you won't sell your Mexican timeshare through them. You're much better off trying to give away free here on TUG.

it's a RTU (right to use) and you don't own anything. Additionally, it is not worth anything despite what you believe or what you originally paid. Using someone to unload it will only cost you up front money (and they will tell you otherwise).

Walk away, rent it, use it, but don't use any exit company to take it off your hands....

SMTN is a well known upfront fee timeshare listing company. They will charge you a lot of money to throw your timeshare up on their website where it will languish for years. They offer no seller pricing assistance. So you often see overpriced listings on their site that will never sell. They charge a lot of money for something you can get elsewhere for much cheaper or even for free.

As long as you owe no mortgage or loan against the timeshare, I agree with others to just forget about it. They will take it back in due time and you won't owe anything more.

Did SMTN call you out of the blue? Are you on the DNC list?

@dioxide45 explains perfectly what SMTN is all about. To add a little salt and pepper to dioxide45’s steak, SMTN, and all timeshare listing companies, want you to believe that your timeshare will sell for thousands of dollars. If they told you the truth, that your timeshare was not worth anything, no one would want to pay them hundred of dollars to list the timeshare for sale on their website. I actually think that all those timeshares languishing unsold on their website is something SMTN probably uses as a selling tool by telling potential customers “just look at all the customers who have listed with us and the sales prices that they can expect”. Finally, if a buyer is located for a timeshare, SMTN charges a significant closing cost to the buyer which can turn off potential buyers or a buyer may offer less due to the high closing costs which cuts into the seller’s profit.

Where did you read these good reviews? Most here on TUG, as you can see above, have very negative views of SMTN. Also, use TUG's search function for various threads about SMTN.

It's not so much that they're an outright scam. They're just a very expensive listing service and, as some have pointed out, very ineffective at connecting bona fide buyers with sellers.

Thank you to all who commented. We own outright - only pay when we use (high maint. fees). Yes, they called out of the blue and we are on do not call list. Somehow they found us. Probably won't use it and have 2 weeks booked for this year (we can get refund for that) and one for Feb. 2022, which probably can't get refunded. I do appreciate all the input - thanks to all who took the time to enlighten us.

If you own Vidanta - the high transfer cost (probably at least 5xMF- per your contract)
will effectively prevent resale .

Value is all in use

What Vidanta unit do you own? I'd be interested if it's Grand Luxxe or Grand Bliss.

They have 11 timeshares listed at a resort i want to buy another week from. All i get is the run around. They must not care enough about there clients to try and sell there t/s. I wouldn't give them a dime. Put it on e bay.
