Well hopefully II gives trade power based on the garbage DVC deposits, but probably not.I’ve never seen it. Odds of ever matching are pretty darn close to zero.
Disney owners do not get to select their own deposits. When Disney owners trade their points Disney selects what to deposit as the trade- and this is just not a resort they chose to deposit.
II gives trade power based on the week and area without respect to system. They further segregate them by resort quality ranking. Given that the rentability is far more with the DVC points than the value exchanging, they have little to no ability to exchange into larger units than the "deposit" and that DVC exchangers pay the same points cost even within the 60 day window, the DVC members are the ones with the short end of the stick. DVC then provides deposits using the points. That gives DVC the ability to even out demand and inventory internally and provides more deposits to II than they would get otherwise.Well hopefully II gives trade power based on the garbage DVC deposits, but probably not.
I agree with Cindy's post (and all the others on this tread). When DVC first went to RCI after being with II for who knows how long before, there were many Aulani deposits. There were far fewer but some really good Grand Californian deposits. I foolishly passed on a 2 bedroom Grand California week over 4th of July week way back when. Being from Ohio, not so easy to get to Hawaii or Disneyland and I thought those deposits would continue. However, those deposits lasted just a couple months, if that. It was also possible to get 3 bedrooms at any DVC resort in Florida. I got a 3 bedroom Saratoga Springs twice. Could have had OKW even easier. BWV was really rare to get a 3 bedroom but I think even that resort was deposited. Not sure if 3 bedrooms at the Contemporary were ever deposited. And AKV was super easy to get 3 bedroom trades. Those amazing deposits lasted for a good 2 years at least when DVC went with RCI.
I was hoping when DVC finally left RCI and went back to II that we would have another period of golden deposits like we had when DVC was new to RCI but the deposits were pitiful. I haven't kept up with DVC deposits in a few year but I do not think DVC deposits for anything other than SSR and OKW happen very often. For a while, all you could get in II were studios or 1 bedrooms at SSR or OWK. Now, I think they deposit 2 bedrooms at those two resorts but I do not think you can get 2 bedrooms at any of the other resorts -- at least, not with any kind of frequency. I could be way off on what kind of DVC deports are happening now.
However, I am near certain there are no DVC deposits for Aulani or Grand Californian. I would also be pleasantly shocked if there are or have ever been DVC deposits to the Polly, Grand Floridian, Vero Beach, Hilton Head, Riviera, or any of the new DVC resorts in any size/season.
I know you only asked about Aulani but I wanted to share my experience trading into DVC as context. I've thought about buying some Aulani points to get into that resort but I haven't done it, yet.
Good luck. Some of the other posts on this treads are from the TUG experts so trust what they post..
So you can't trade into II after you reserve a week?I am an owner of Aulani who can make reservation at 11 months ahead. In most cases, when Aulani is opens at 7 months to other DVC owners, it is almost gone. As such, I will be surprised that it will appear in II.
No, like MVC Abound they exchange points and DVC decides what is deposited. There are no limitations to what's deposited other than the number of points. That's why they mostly deposit the lower demand resorts and a lot of 1 BR which eat up points as well as at 7 months. A 1BR is twice the cost of a studio as well as being the least popular unit type. DVC is bound by the internal reservation rules which requires they book non home resorts at 7 months or less. DVC members can't deposit a reserved week. They MIGHT be able to exchange a week with an independent, they could in years past but I haven't seen any examples in a few years. So you can't trade into II after you reserve a week?
If you are placing a request with a Marriott into another Marriott (perhaps works for Vistana too), there is no three resort or three dates requirement with the request. When I only want to match one resort for an OGS, like Newport Coast, I use Grand Cal and Aulani at Christmas as the second and third required resorts in my search. No chance those will match.
Can you do that online or do you have to call to set up a 1week, 1 resort request? If you are placing a request with a Marriott into another Marriott (perhaps works for Vistana too), there is no three resort or three dates requirement with the request.
You can do so online. As Jeremy noted, if searching with a Marriott for another MVC only the system does not require 3 choices. I also do as Huskerpaul when I need to list 3 choices, I select high end options that I would gladly accept if they were to match but are dramatically unlikely to do.Can you do that online or do you have to call to set up a 1week, 1 resort request?
I use WSJ for all of January as the placeholder for when I want a specific request. Should it ever match I'll find a way to go....
My point was to demonstrate how hard it is to trade into Aulani with anything. That it is so hard, that folks like me use Aulani as an impossible trade for ongoing searches. I learned the trick from a very savvy WM owner, so certainly not taking credit for the idea.If you are placing a request with a Marriott into another Marriott (perhaps works for Vistana too), there is no three resort or three dates requirement with the request.
Thanks for this information. It's a shame DVC only deposits studios for HHI and VB. I do remember seeing some studios at VB in II but I couldn't remember what dates. I'll file this information away in my memory banksI have seen Disney HHI & Vero Beach since they returned to Interval but only for December (not the last 2 weeks) and January. And only Studios as best I can remember.
