It's a good marketing campaign to sell people on some sort of gut health product but the science is decent and it's kind of fun. You bake simple muffins and add blue food coloring You eat two of them and mark the time you ate them. Then you wait til you see blue poo in the toilet hours/days later. The time it took for the blue food coloring to travel through your body is ONE indication of gut health.

We did it as a family because it seemed like a simple, fun way to talk about nutrition, human anatomy, gut health, and baking chemistry. Average time in the study was something like 28 hours. "shorter transit times were generally linked with better health overall, less abdominal fat, and healthier responses to food" but of course if you had some sort of surgery that shortens your bowel length then that will impact things. And other factors might speed or slow things that aren't an indicator of good or bad health so just take it all with a grain of salt.

Here's how to do it:

Sounds like a shitty experiment, pun intended.
