Has anyone been to Steele Hill Resort (Sanbornton NH) lately?

I just exchanged into Steele Hill West for mid-September.

Just wondering if any TUGgers have been there?

As always, we will golf; mostly at area courses, but perhaps once on the on-site 9-hole course. Has anyone played it---Den Brae?

I guess they have BBQ facilities, and DW will work out in the fitness center.

I called there before confirming the exchange, the nice lady said about half of the 'West' had been refurbished. ('East' has all been upgraded with sofas and granite counters----but the dates weren't right for us.)

There's a restauant, I'll have to look that up, too.

BUT, I'll take opinions, etc.----if anyone has them.

Thanks,
Pat

We only live a few miles from the resort and own a couple of weeks so that we can use the amenities. Mid september is a spectacular time to visit. The weather is still beautiful but most of the tourists are gone. West is nice and has easy access to the largest pools and the gym. The unrenovated rooms are pretty dumpy but the ones that have been done over are really nice. The gym has just been really done and we think its rather nice.

The on-site restaurant is pretty decent but its in a separate building. Heritage farm pancake house is about 5 miles away and it is an AWESOME breakfast experience. Highly recommended!

The golf... well its a great workout! Very steep - no carts. It good for bringing kids and its great for practicing but its a serious workout when you try walking 9.

The good news is that there are some really great courses in the area and you won't have any trouble getting on them in mid-sept.

If you need recommendations for courses or restaurants let me know.

**Just noticed you also own at Harbor Ridge - guess you have great taste!

I'll get my questions for you ready---and send tomorrow.

It's nice to have someone 'local' to get info from

Thanks,
Pat

Did you get this with your Harbor Ridge week? Just curious...

Ironically, what I believe was the 'weakest' of my three weeks was the one that got this exchange.

Granted, that deposit was a 2BR, but I was surprised that my Harbor Ridge June 1BR didn't 'pull' it.

hmmmmmmmmmm..

Thanks for the response, questions below: Thanks, Pat

Obviously, I'll be hoping for a renovated room; we'll see.
My wife uses the gym at resorts most days, so that will be important to her.

Neither of us are 'breakfast people', but I'll keep that in mind.

WOW, we like to walk, but we also like to play 18 holes----so twice around will obviously be a workout!!

I looked up area courses: please share your opinions:

Den Brae---onsite, 9 holes, not much online info (now I know it's a workout).

Franklin Greens 18, about 7 miles? Not much info

Laconia CC 18, about 8 miles? It looks nice, maybe 3 1/2 *? But semi-private/looks like maybe we can't get on and play it?

Lochmere 18 about 8 miles? It looks fairly nice, maybe 3*? Semi-private?

Pleasant Ridge 18 about 10 miles? It looks 'fair', maybe 2 1/2 * ?

Then, it looks like Waukewan and Ragged Mountain are decent, but quite far away?

Am I missing some other 18 holes worth considering?

I do own a June week at Harbor Ridge----ironically is would 'pull' Steele Hill East (following week), but not 'West'.

Franklin Greens - Never played it but as a town Franklin isn't very nice.

Laconia CC - very nice old school course. No great views but its one of my favorites. They do allow the public to play just generally not on weekends.

Lochmere - very nice course but long and lots of elevation change. Probably need a cart. You can get great deals here online.

Pheasant Ridge - Good course, great views, reasonable $$, probably want a cart.

Waukewan is definitely worth the drive (about 30 mins) unless its been raining (the course gets soggy). Otherwise its a very nice place to play with really nice views and its reasonably walkable. Also Meredith NH is very pretty and I'm sure the wife will want to visit.

Without driving a good bit I think that is all of the good courses in the area. There are a few VERY nice courses in wolfeboro but thats about an hour drive.

What week at Harbor Ridge? I've got a 22 right now and am hoping to close on a week 26.

I'm right between the two weeks you mentioned---a week #24 EOY 1BR.
