I did an exchange this morning for a 2BR at Harbour Club for early July. We've never been to Hilton Head before and I wanted to see if anyone has any comments how this resort compares to the other Marriotts and resorts on Hilton Head. Is early July is peak season for Hilton Head and will there be large crowds?

Harbour Club is one of my favorite resorts! It is not right on the beach and it does not have all of the amenities that other resorts on HHI have but it is in the heart of Harbour Town. For beach access, you can walk across the street and take the free trolly to the Sea Pines Beach Club. The pool is almost always empty and calm which is a really nice change. Be sure to walk next door to the Harbour Town Bakery for the best Hazelnut coffee and breakfast sandwiches. It will be crowded in the beginning of July but is is not unbearable crowded. I really love this resort - I hope you enjoy it!

To get the flavor of Sea Pines, the Plantation in which Harbour Club resides, you will want to rent bikes. It is not a short ride, but then it is not a long ride, to the beach from Harbour Town.

Enjoyed Harbor Club

I was at Harbor Club over the Memorial Day week. The island was crowded for the Memorial Day weekend, but I did not even realize it until after the weekend ended and a lot of people left for home. I don't think it will be more crowded in July than on Memorial Day. The Harbor Club was very nice; large units in a nice setting close to town. There are restaurants just out your door and bike paths will take you anywhere you want to go in Sea Pines. There is a shuttle as well, but we preferred the bikes. Unfortunately, you are not able to walk right out to the beach, which is always nice on vacation. Try to get a top floor unit (floor 5) which will give you a view of the town and beach.

The villas rooms are nice with a large master bedroom. We loved the short walk to the harbour to look at the large boats.

Please bring your camera for some outstanding picture taking views of Harbour Town and Sea Pines Island.

2nd on Harbour Town Bakery. Rent bikes for the week and bike to Sea Pines Beach Club. We own at Monarch which is next to the Sea Pines Beach Club and bike to Harbour Town Bakery and then over to the Sea Pines Racquet Club to play tennis.

Hilton Head has 8 Marriott timeshare resorts. The "Big 3" Marriotts rule the roost (Grande Ocean, Barony, and Surfwatch) because they were all built by Marriott, and built fairly recently, but Harbour Club is a close fourth, imho, and definitely a favorite. It's in Sea Pines, a great area for shopping, biking, etc......and a bit more serene. For outsiders to go in, it's a $5 pass fee.

Located in a quiet corner of Harbour Town and overlooking the inland waterway/marsh, Harbour Club is both beautiful and relaxing. Recently we purchased a couple of extra Interval Int'l "XYZ weeks", one being HC. We gave it as a special gift to a good friend who had just retired... we thought they'd enjoy a nice romantic week together, and they loved it.......actually they asked how difficult it might be "to go again sometime".

They had a top floor villa, far right back corner, with one of the best and most picturesque views. The Master BR had the full glass sliding door view of the waterway (as did the living room), and they still talk about that. The layout of the villa is different from all other Marriotts and a nice change....and it seems very spacious as mentioned.

Enjoy your time, and try to get around to see the other resorts (do the tour at Surfwatch, and just say "no"----you'll get $100 towards dining, which is great). June and July are the most crowded times on the island, but any month from March to September is also crowded. June and July are crazy busy, especially when dining out, but who cares? No agenda, just enjoy it. Funny thing about HH, you can do certain things and go to certain places and essentially miss the crowds. We do. The roads leading in and out will always be busy, but once you reach your more private properties you'll not feel it. There are quieter areas of the island. And as for restaurants, etc., there are ways to deal with it.

Priceless advice: Marriott concierge "call ahead" seating (at restaurants that don't take reservations) and normal reservation service are gems that many don't utilize....Without call-ahead, you'll wait 1-2 hours, but with it you'll be seated within 10-15 minutes tops. For some reason ($$$$$$), Marriott is well respected by the local restaurants and not only honor us with quick seating, but with good tables too. Last night for instance (we're at HH now concluding 3 weeks) we were seated within 5 minutes at a place where there was a 90 minute wait, and we had a large booth (there are only four). So don't forget about that....and make the call to the concierge TWO days ahead (not day-of), as the busier restaurants limit the number of call-ahead seatings given out.

There will be a great little spot near you...Harbour Town Bakery and Cafe.

Get one (of 2) tables on front porch and enjoy the view. Under the shade of huge, gorgeous oak trees, steps from Harbour Club and across from the main parking lot and playground at Harbour Town. Also visit the Cinnamon Bear Country Store's "ice cream counter" in the back of the store.....not many know about it. CBCS is located in the breezeway about midway in the HT shops, behind the bronze statue of the "seated reader". Those rocking chairs along the walkway are great spots to sit and people-watch near the Lighthouse.

Bike paths in Sea Pines are the prettiest on the island, especially along Plantation Rd (starting at Lighthouse Rd and going toward Lawton Stables).

Warning: Be very careful.....you may fall in love and end up buying something at HH. LOL

Personally I prefer Monarch. Yes, the rooms are smaller and it is an older Resort but IMO it has location, location, location.....It is inside Sea Pines; right on the beach; right on the bike trail; equidistant to Harbour Town and South Beach; two golf courses right across the street, etc.
