if you buy a phase 1 unit can you change the week in your season or are they
fixed
 
they are fixed but you can also float in your season--but to go to another season you have to wait till 8 months to call so you compete with all other Starwood owners calling. Buy the season you want to travel in!
 
We bought a Phase 1 unit, unaware that is was in Phase 1, and are stuck with a week in May that we can't use, as we are teachers still in school.

It has been difficult to trade to another week, but after numerous (20+) phone calls, we finally got the next to last week in June. I am hoping to get the very last week in June when other owners trade out at the 8 month window, but I'm not holding my breath.

Be sure to buy a week that is usable by you. Trading within the gold season has been near impossible.
