Hi - We are going to Harborside July 15-22. Can anyone recommend a car service that is nice, reliable, reasonably priced that can provide transportation from the airport?

Also, Verizon told us that it's $1.99 per minute to make and receive calls. Is this true? That's outrageous! Texts are 50 cents to send and 5 cents to receive. Any advice to get around this?

Thanks!

Sheri

Definitely e-mail Sandra -- sexy_sanny@hotmail.com. I had read about her for years on this board and decided to use her on our recent trip to Harborside. Our experience was great! She is very considerate and knowledgable. In addition to airport transportation, we paid her for a Island Tour which was really quite interesting and quite a bit cheaper than what Harborside offers.

Did she get her new car? She was supposed to have ordered an Escalade, that's what we were told last July 2010.

Keep in mind she has several cars and drivers assisting her at times. When I was last there, her daughter was the driver... Regardless, Sandra has always gotten us where we needed to go, and I always felt my luggage was safe in the car while shopping on arrival (doubt I'd feel the same if I just chose a taxi at random upon arrival).

If you have a smartphone, you can connect to the wifi and use google voice to make free wifi calls back to the USA. Of course you have to pay for the wifi at harborside though.

I always forget about the wifi function of the phone....doh.:wall:

quick tip, if you end-up just getting a cab in the airport upon your arrival, make sure to ask for a car with AC, they have many taxis without air conditioner, quite a hassle to arrive in Bahamas, often still wearing your winter clothes and commute in a car without AC. :)

And sometimes she has a driver who wants to charge a bit "extra". She's told us about this; we haven't experienced it. Don't do it. Pay the agreed upon price (print the email if you want backup) and tip if you'd feel it's warranted (it usually is).

I have a Droid Incredible, which is a Smartphone. I've never used Google Voice.....can you tell me any more as to how it works???

Thanks!

PS: I just emailed Sandra the car lady!

I don't think Goggle Voice works outside of US...

Does anyone know the price Sandra charges for transporting to Harborside with a stop at the grocery store.... 2 people ..

I think I paid about $40 last time, might have been a bit more. Not the cheapest, but reliable. And you won't save much elsewhere, I suspect.

I also think that it is $40 to go to store and HRA. I usually just give them $50-60 depending on how nice they are (how many Kalik Gold they serve me on the ride). We have had Sandra a few times and three of her other drivers who are all very nice. They have never tried to charge me extra.

I also have a Droid Incredible (until the Bionic ever comes out). I believe that Google Voice will work from HRA using wifi. You need to sign up for a Google Voice account and then load the app on your phone (I believe that is is in the market). Then you can make a call using Google Voice. As someone else mentioned you can also use Skype. Skype should be loaded on your phone already unless you rooted your phone and removed the bloatware.

Sandra emailed me back and said it was $50 from airport to hotel including stop to market, and $40 on way back.

Yeah, that's reasonable. I can check my old emails if you want, but i suspect that's what I paid. It's hard for me to remember because we had a number of pickups and there were different rates, and last time I only went to the Sheraton first, and then the next day from the Sheraton to the market to HBR. The posted rates at HBR are less than Sandra charges, fwiw, but I think it's worth a few extra dollars.
