I booked a week at the resort listed in the title about a year ago without knowing anything about the area at all. I guess the hook was Makinac Island being 45 miles away. Always wanted to go there.

Now that I've got this week booked for the 4th of July this year, I'm thinking it's a long way to drive for just a week. Can anyone suggest another area either an easy drive from there or between there and Tennessee that might have availability to add a second week?

II would be nice as I have a week that I've already extended and need to use, but I also have lots of RCI Points (don't know WHAT I'm going to do with them this year). No RCI Weeks expiring this year, but I do have some on deposit.

The only time I've been to Michigan was to change planes in Detroit. We're not really lake people (surrounded by them here). I usually do better at planning, but just can't seem to work up excitement for this trip.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sheila

There is also Sleeping Bear Dunes(National Park) that's close to Glen Arbor.
Kids thought the huge dunes were cool. Glen Arbor is a really cute little town. Also Charlevoix and Petoskey.

If you are into golf, perhaps try the Boyne area resorts(Mountain Run and Hemlock at Boyne are in RCI and the newer Boyne Resorts (fractionals) are in II).

Summer is really tough to get up in that area, but the way the economy is going (auto) something might turn up, especially the week before 4th of July.

We used to rent up at the Homestead(Glen Arbor) and the rental rates were  .

Perhaps look at the Traverse City area.

I think you would like the Traverse City area, and perhaps could connect a week at Pinestead Reef.
Boyne Resorts are very close to Harbor Cove, so almost in the same area. You might like a second week in a different area.
I also saw a resort in the Holland, MI area that looked like a fun area to try. We love the Holland and Saugatuck area in the summer.

Not golfers, thanks. We enjoy exploring small towns. Antiquing (not that we buy much), checking out thrift stores, taking scenic drives.

Thanks for all the good suggestions. We have another vacation planned in early June, so an add on for this trip would have to be afterwards. I think the other trip is keeping me from getting excited about this one.

I looked a bit at Wisconsin Dells, but everything I saw reminded me of Pigeon Forge, so I wasn't sure we'd enjoy it.

Well if you like antiquing and stuff I think you'll enjoy your trip. A few wineries are in the area also.

We haven't been "Up North" in about 4 yrs and are looking forward to going this year.

Definitely look at the Traverse City area for an additional week! Many antique shops and wonderful wineries on the peninsula just north of Traverse. It is a beautiful drive along the lake from a higher ridge where the road is built.
