And what would Thanksgiving be without the wondrous WKRP turkey drop ......

Still one of the funniest TV elements ever made.

Happy Thanksgiving. This will be a bit different Thanksgiving for me. I handed off the turkey cooking job. I see there are two turkeys soaking in brine and a few bags of hickory pellets in the garage. I think the son in law is going to smoke them. Should be good.

Happy Thanksgiving! It's going to be a great day, started with the WKRP clip and Alice's Restaurant, before you know it we'll be eating turkey with family. For us the smallest 'crowd' ever, hoping next year to be back to our normal gathering (that required us to move to a church hall).

One of the things I'm thankful for: All the wonderful people on TUG willing to share their expertise and friendship even with people they've never met. I’m always touched reading peoples' kind messages when another TUGger is going through a difficult time, too. Happy Thanksgiving!

Actually, turkeys can fly. One was on our deck this morning, and when I went out to chase him off, he jumped up on the railing and flew down. It's fun to have turkeys in our back yard, but I don't want them pooping on our deck.

What do turkeys do on the day after Thanksgiving?
... They take off their peacock costumes. -- Alexa --

hope everyone has a lovely thanksgiving holiday weekend!

We will be having our 2nd Thanksgiving of the year on Thursday. We had our Canadian one in October with our youngest DS, our DiL, our 2 little granddaughters and our DD. I cooked a 15 pound turkey and all the trimmings. DiL & DD looked after dessert. There was lots of everything left over that got packaged up and put in the freezer. There was enough for 4 dinners for DH and I when we are home at Christmas and or in March.

Now we are at our FL condo until near Christmas. DD arrived this afternoon on a flight from Toronto, as she did last year, for another turkey dinner, with our oldest DS (who moved to FL last year) and DiL who are driving over from the Tampa area on Wednesday for 2 days in St. Augustine. This time I only bought a 12 pound turkey and will not be cooking the stuffing inside of it to try to cut down the length of time our oven is on. The highest daytime temperature this week is to be Thursday of course! DH & DD think it's great that they get 2 Thanksgiving dinners now. Then there will also be one at Christmas but I'm off the hook on cooking that one thankfully.

A bit of a damper on this year's festivities as my MiL passed away last week at 93 years of age. She had been in hospital for a couple of weeks but seemed to be improving when we were out to see her just before we left for Florida at the end of October. We hoped we would see her when we went home for Christmas but Mum had other plans. We are all very thankful that we had 48 more years with her than we thought we were going to have. Mum had cancer in her sinuses that had started to spread to her brain and in July of 1976 she was given 6-8 months to live after chemo and radiation didn't seem to be doing anything. It just took a little longer to take effect and by early in 1978 she was officially in remission. She had a great long life and got to see 3 of her 4 kids get married, had 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. RIP Mum!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I‘m very sorry for your loss. But you had 48 wonderful years of memories to share with your family.

Wishing you and all your family members a Happy Thanksgiving Day.

Happy Turkey Day! We had a friend visit us yesterday for the first time since our three-years-this-week move to the old folks home. “Just to be sociable” I had dessert with my lunch. I was full, didn’t need or want anything, but I chose the pumpkin cheesecake figuring I would just have a couple bites. OMG! So delicious I ate it all and will have it several more times before the dessert menu changes at the end of the week.

An unexpected three year low point was that after all this time of often leaving the balcony door open all day most days whether we are home or not, we had a cat jump/fall/“helped” off the edge. And it was 12 year old Mocha, not 5 year old stinkpot Jack! Thank God I was home baking and wondered why she wasn’t there at noon sharp (her stomach is timed to purrfection) for lunch. Noticed Jack on the balcony ledge looking down, so I looked and saw Mocha in the bushes that broke her fall. Ran down and around like a crazy person, and she let me pick her up (no small feat with a frightened cat). Luckily she is completely fine. When we chose this courtyard unit we looked down from the second floor and decided that Jack shouldn’t kill himself if he jumped, who knew it would be Mocha!
