I probably should have said Happy Canada Day weekend, but oh well, you know what I mean, eh ? Anyone doing anything fun this weekend ?

Bill

Thanks Bill! Happy Canada Day to all the Canadian Tuggers.
We will not be doing too much as I had knee replacement surgery a week ago so I'm still not ready to dance or anything else too strenuous on my feet! The little town of Coldwater ON, that is just a few miles from us, is having a community celebration with the local Lions Club doing a free BBQ and the Royal Canadian Legion having live music all afternoon with drink specials and door prizes. We are meeting our daughter and some friends over there on Tuesday.

Sounds like good times for sure.

That's OK. Since Canada Day falls on a Tuesday this year, most who can will take an extra vacation day and make it a nice, long, 4-day weekend! As a retiree, I get Monday off anyway!! :D 🎆🎇🇨🇦
Our daughter is an employee of a neighbouring Township (so Municipal govt employee) and of course gets Tuesday off. She had lots of banked time to use (can only keep so many hours banked) by the end of the month so she used it to take Monday off. Yesterday, Friday, was her CWW (Compressed Work Week -work extra 30 mins a day, every day for 3 weeks and get a day off with pay) day so she is enjoying a 5 day weekend. We are shocked that she didnt go anywhere as she has inherited our travel genes, but for once she is staying near home and enjoying spending time in the southern Georgian Bay area where she lives.

Its not actually Canada Day until Tuesday July 1st.

But is the start of Canada Day weekend !!!! It's kind of like when the 4th of July lands on Tuesday or Thursday and some workers get a really long weekend.

Bill

Oddly most holidays in Canada, with the exception of Christmas and July 4th, are all on either Mondays or Fridays (Good Friday). So traditionally Canadians think of those as long weekends. I don't recall every wishing anyone a happy Canada Day long weekend. Maybe because it is one of rare holidays that doesn't usually fall on a weekend.

You're right, and good news, your memory is still intact!! ;)😁

We do normally reserve the Canada Day greeting for Canada Day itself. We may say, "enjoy the holiday (or long) weekend!" and reserve "Happy Canada Day" for July 1st itself. In any case, the sentiments and good intentions from our southern neighbours, especially these days, are in the right place and heartily appreciated!:cheer:🇨🇦

For me it was just a way to show support for my Canadian buddies.

I'm also a Canadian tugger. Just living in the US.

Happy Canada Day.
