Honest opinions.. how is this place for a family of 4? (2 kids ages 4 & 2)

The one in Cabo? Nice pool for smaller kids, maybe a few activities for them (although yours may be a tad young.) Plenty of beach sand to play on, but the ocean is dangerous for swimming. It's a nice resort, not a big party place, very accommodating. Several restaurants on site, but none I'd consider designed especially for kids. Like many places, there is more for adults to do than small children. If you take them along, you'll all likely have a fun time. Maybe check their website? http://haciendadelmar.com.mx/

We stayed at HDM last December with our daughter, son-in-law and their three young sons. Everyone had a great time. It is a beautiful resort with several pools including a shallow one for young children. The units have well equipped kitchens so that really helps a family with young children. The ocean views from common areas are superb, but as others have said the beach is NOT SAFE for swimming, especially with young children. However, it is great for a beach walk. There are activities for children and there are several restaurants on property with two that are a good fit for young ones. The resort is located about 20 minutes from downtown Cabo. Cab rides are about $35 each way and the resort runs a shuttle for $10 round trip per person. The two drawbacks were the prices in the restaurant and the cost of transportation to/from town. The restaurant prices were typical resort pricing (much higher than downtown) and the food quality was excellent. Service at the resort facilities and restaurants was also excellent.

Is there a hotel there now? thought it was deserted?

Note that the previous poster was talking about Cabo, not Puerto Rico.

I heard there is a new very upscale hotel opening where the Dorado Beach was, but the Cerromar is no more. That is why I would think the area is desolate. Check it out thoroughly before you go.

The OP is talking about Puerto Rico, not Cabo.
