If I make a reservation for a friend (someone I know in real life, for over two decades) and put him on the guest reservation and it’s confirmed, can Wyndham cancel that reservation? My friend is going to bonnet creek in August. He used kyack or whatver for a reservation, but why couldn’t he just use mine for cheaper ?

Most of the time no if it is not in the owner's priority period. Unless they are mad at you and think you are a commercial operation. August is not in that period. It ends in July. Except Labor Day weekend is in that period and it is in August.

They can change it and add August at any time. However Southern kids go back to school in August and Northern kids start sports practice in August. So, travel slacks off and they may leave it as it is.

I always took advantage of Southern kids going back to school in August to take advantage of Myrtle Beach when crowds thin out in August.

You do have guest confirmations. However, August is so far out that you don't really want to change it over into your friend's name too early. You can cancel the reservation up to 15 days prior to check-in. If you put it in a guest's name and then they cannot go, you've burned a guest confirmation. Likewise, you get 2 reservations in the priority window. If you need to send a guest during one of those windows, definitely hold off on adding your guest's name. On your reservation screen it will say YES if it is in the priority window.

An exception is near the end of the calendar year if you still have guest certificates remaining. I still have a guest certificate remaining in 2024 and I have a July reservation I need to put in my sister-in-law’s name, so I’m going to do it before December 31. I’ll get 2 new guest certificates on January 1 either way and any remaining from 2024 will expire.

Good point.

I have guest confirmations expire every year so I don't really think in those terms. However I have had Wyndham cancel two reservations that I had a guest's name on. But then again, I've had them cancel reservations that my owners' names have been on. If they want the reservation, apparently they can find a way to take it. I never could recover reservations that they had canceled.

Did you ever find out why? Did they overbook or call you a commercial operation? Was it a computer glitch? Sometimes people make the mistake of having the owners name on 2 reservations at the same time,
