Hi

As part of the updated rules for 2025, HGV now allows members guests to utilize the open season. Just need a guest cert.

Did anyone try it yet? - just wondered if the resort gave any grief or maybe wouldn't honor it it?

Regards

I am curious for this to be answered also. I know the initial report a month ago is that the website didn’t have the option nor could the CSR add it to the reservation. Do anyone have any current updates?

I went to try it this morning and the website still doesn't allow for a guest certificate. HGVC isn't open yet but I may try to call later in the day.

As it turned out, my daughter wanted to stay next to Penn Station and I was able to find her and her partner an amazing rate at the Moxy Times Square in a corner king room that included 2 cocktails. Ah youth...;-)

i want to try this - sounds like not allowed online? have to call?

First effort - fail.

Not sure what Mrs letsgobobby and the CSR talked about ... but he wanted to charge her $129 for a reservation fee and $94 for a guest cert. That sounds like a points reservation to me - I don't see a reservation fee for open season when booking online - but I've only done open season online. And we have a free guest cert so there shouldn't have been a charge for that anyway.

will try again in a day.

What is the source for the belief guest certs are now permitted for OS reservations? The guide does not say that, it seems to exclude OS:

“Guest Certificates are available for Home Week, Home Resort Priority, Hilton Club Priority, Club and HGV Max reservations only.”

The New updated rules for 2025 mentioned you could get a guest cert for OS.

succes! (I think)

the CSR recommended I book the OS reservation online while on the phone with her, then she would add the guest cert. I asked her to confirm ("promise") she would be able to add the guest cert because I wouldn't make the non-refundable OS reservation otherwise.

I booked the nights and immediately received an email confirmation and could view my reservation online.

Then she proceeded to add the guest cert (I get one free per year). There were no fees for this.

I received an email confirmation with the updated guest info. Online it shows that a guest cert has been added but it says "null null" in the guest name; the guest phone number is correct. CSR says the name field will populate later. With the correct phone number showing and the correct email in hand, I felt good about the transaction.

final verdict - it seems to be true!

Thanks for confirming this because I would expect this to be possible since it seemed to be deliberately added in the 2025 rules.

That’s great.

Just for the record I have a reservation with a guest cert and looking at the reservation online it also say Null null in the name but the phone and email is correct. Furthermore the email does hold the correct name and does not say null.

Of course I am on the line with HGVC and the VC says, NOPE if it was OS and you could add a GC I would know about that. Well I had to get him to pull up the document and show him where it was, because he didn't believe me.

So now I am in the same dilemma, make a reservation that I can't cancel. The window doesn't open for a few more days, but I had a question, so I called to ask.

Has anyone tried to tie a OS and a CS reservation together so that you don't have to leave the room you have, if the room type is the same?

I got on the line with a supervisor, she told me she is not allowed to override it, and NO GC can be added. They are going to escalate and ask higher ups if they will allow an exception for me. It sure seems this was an oversight change, that management didn't approve and nobody noticed it in the documents. (Who's job was that, oops). They plan on reverting back to the older wording. At least that is what I was told.

This is the answer I got from HGVC....

"Open Season reservations are discounted cash rate reservations at our resorts. There is a two-night minimum stay requirement, and they are offered only to our deeded Members. These reservations may be confirmed within 30 days of a desired check-out date. We are aware of the online discrepancy regarding Guest Certificates being applicable for this kind of travel; however, that is not the case. This is a typo, and our legal team is assisting with updating this information. "

Despite their own rules saying this is possible, they are NOT letting me use Open season for my friends reservation. They will allow me to use point, just not open.

Dang this was what I were afraid of.

You should think that at least for 2025 that HGV were bound by the rules posted on the website.

Agreed. If they plan to change the wording, they can certainly do that. But, while it is written this way, I would certainly expect them to honor what they have written.

Maybe a series of calls will get someone sympathetic enough to allow it?

Cheers.

This is the middle of May. Come on HGV, get your act together.
LOL. The TS industry and competent IT are like oil and water. Who knows what the real story is, but expecting the IT people to stay neck-and-neck with changes is not advised.
