I am looking to book an ocean view 2BR unit for 5 days in mid-January. Which is the better property? Which has better pool/beach access, amenities, restaurants etc? Thanks!

I've not stayed at the Grand Islander, but my wife and I, along with two in-laws, did stay at the Grand Waikikian this year during Spring Break. We were in a 2 Bedroom Premier unit with a partial ocean view. The unit was clean and well-maintained, and the resort staff was friendly and helpful.
Nightly parking at the Hilton complex is costly. If you have a vehicle that needs to be parked, consider the Hale Koa Hotel parking garage, which is just a 5-minute walk from the Hilton resorts: https://www.halekoa.com/about-hale-koa-hotel/parking
I just got back from 5 nights in Lagoon tower, very spacious rooms but pay for the Ocean view if you can get it. Looked out @ parking garages! Lovely complex many pools and places to eat. They do not heat the pools, so I hope you are a hardy soul. We sat on lounges, coming from AZ it felt cold.
We stayed at The Grand Islander earlier this year, and enjoyed our time there. We had a high floor ocean view unit. The Grand Islander does have its own pool, only available to guests of that tower. It looked nice, but is small and not much of a vide. We only used the main HHV pools.
Grand Waikikian is much better than Grand Islander IMO. I’ve been fortunate enough to stay in the 2 bedroom penthouse units in both and everything about the Grand Waikikian was better. Room was nicer. Loved how the rooms were separated by the living room in between. Kitchen was more spacious. Ocean view was so much better. Location was more centralized. Elevator system is better. Could totally live at the Waikikian unit. I can’t see myself staying at GI again unless they are running an insane promo or everything else completely sold out and I absolutely need to be in Waikiki at that time.
If you are planning to self park, the Grand Waikikian is a much better choice. The parking structure elevators drop you directly in the GW. The Grand Islander is about a 5 minute walk through the Village resort areas
I prefer the units at Grand Waikikian. I only stay at Grand Islander if I can't get in the GW.
If you are going to take another posters advice and park at Hale Koa, the Grand Islander is much closer. Literally right across the street from the Hale Koa parking structure.
When the resorts were reopening during COVID, I tried the Hokulani and loved it. It is not on the Village property and the units are smaller. But you can drop off your car at the valet jump on the elevator and be in your unit in a minute or two. I stay at the Hokulani every month or two. Valet parking at hokulani is $30 whereas the village self parking is $57.
