I'll be there July 5, anybody has any tips about what to do, see, etc.? Thanks!

Acapulco Grand Mayan is wonderful!

No, just a fear monger. I just got back from my 25+ time there on Sunday. Had a fantastic time like always. It's like going to my second home. I believe at the top of the Mexico section is a sticky on things to do in Acapulco. The resort is fabulous! I spend a lot of my time there this time, as I went strictly for R&R, and the resort delivered the goods!

We are somewhat cautious when going out at night, but if you have a good taxi driver, he will stay near you and have no problem. The resort is awesome and we only go out for dinner. We sometimes eat at the resort also. When you factor in the cost of a taxi ride, the price is about the same.

We have been to the MP/GM at least 8 times and absolutely love it.

The Grand Mayan is about a 45 minute drive from Acapulco. We arrived by Mexican bus from Ixtapa and were able to get a cab at the bus station. Taxi cab drivers are always around trying to get a fare and trying to convince you to take tours and site-seeing excursions with them. We did the Cliff Divers one evening and went into Acapulco another day. We shared the cab expenses with a couple (we didn't know prevously) on the way into town, and found our own cab back. We didn't feel in danger at any time. I have friends who love Acapulco and go there almost every year for a couple of weeks at a time.

The rooms at the Grand Mayan are wonderful, and the resort is very nice. We usually ate at least one meal at the resort. We took a cab to the grocery store and stocked up on food for lunch and breakfast. They also have a nice Internet service.

The time share sales presentation was one of the worst I have ever attended. The 90-minute presentation turned into an all-day affair. After the presentation, you're hit with another sales solicitation, which is really bad news. There is an entire website devoted the evils of the Great Vacations Club, which is different from the Grand Mayan Resorts.

Enjoy your trip.

I'm sorry to disagree, but I can drive from the MP/GM complex to Acapulco's bay in about 20 minutes. It could be 45 from the complex to the end of the bay, after going thru all of the city from one end to the other.

I've driven it many times, including last week. On last Saturday late in the afternoon, it did take over 1/2 hr to get from the complex to the Zocolo, but by then the weekend traffic had already started.

I must have remembered incorrectly--that was in January 2007. It sure seemed longer than 20 minutes to/from Cliff Divers and bus depot.

How did it go?

pogallagher

how was your trip? Did you rent car? Get taxi? What's best way to get around?

I'm planning a trip there and wonder if I should or not.... must confirm tomorrow.. would love to hear your experience... no kids just us adults going..
