RCI lists the Grand Mayan Rivera Maya twice on it's website, 6973 & 6974. There must be a difference but I can't figure it out. I've even been there before. I just don't want to make a mistake when I can pick either one. For instance, I know they have a fantastic pool but it isn't available to people staying at the Mayan Palace. If I pick 6973 is there something I can't use that 6974 can? The last time I was there they were in the process of building a lazy river which got deferred when they switched to building the Grand Luxxe. Did they ever finish the river? Would I have access to it?

Lastly, when an exchanger checks in to the Grand Mayan are they still told that they will not get a good unit unless they take the tour? I am tempted to say that I will, just to finally get a good room and then ditch the sales people all week.:hi:

I believe the difference has to do with where the deposit came from -excess developer owned weeks vs individual owner deposit weeks. For a brief period the resort fees may have been different depending on the origin of the week. I don't think that is the case now but you will want to read the important advisements to make sure. With Vida you will also see one of the numbers used more often in rentals than in exchanges. There shouldn't be any difference in the amenities or placement based on the two resort numbers.
