We are heading to the Grand Islander for the first time later this week. Does the Grand Islander have its own lobby and car entrance? We are not renting a car, but i just want to make sure the taxi drops us off at the right spot..

It does. Have them drop you off street level (Kalia Rd), take the stairs (or elevator) up one floor, and you've arrived at the lobby! There's a spot to pull over off the street for drop off. There may be a valet entrance that gets you to the lobby level. Can't remember since we didn't use it.

Just past the HHV main entrance off Kalia Rd, Grand Islander has a driveway ramp that cuts through the sidewalk that goes up the lobby marked VALET ENTRANCE. Not the most obvious entrance and not marked very well, but local taxi drivers should know it if you just tell them Grand Islander lobby.

Perfect, thanks to both of you. I assumed most of the local drivers should know this, but i always like to be sure. Since HHV is so large, i don't want to get dropped off with bags at wrong location..

I don't rely on drivers knowing or not knowing where to go and pin the exacy location I want to go on the map. If they ask me where to go, I always tell them I put the destination in the app so I don't have to answer these type of questions. ;) Works every time.

On a side note, in this digital age, with information easily accessible to those who know how to find, "boots on the grounds experience" has less and less value. Back in the days, taxi drivers would know which route to take to optimize ETA. Today Google Maps does it better as it reacts to traffic patterns extremely well.

If you use Charley's taxi I would think they know exactly where to drop off since they seem to be the preferred cabs on the taxi lines at HHV. It's a flat rate from the airport.

If it's Uber/Lyft then all bets are off.

Grand Islander lobby and front desk. Drops you about 60 feet from the front desk and porter there to help get luggage to your room. Or if room is not ready they will hold it for you. Enjoy your stay at GI.

TUG is amazing.

The OP posts a good question and within an hour has two great responses - including a picture with an arrow! Wow!

Good work TUGgers!

Best,

Greg

We are using Charlie's, and i assumed they would know. But I have been dropped off at the wrong location by Taxi/Uber/Limo drivers before, so prefer to know for myself where I want to go..

The picture is perfect, you go up that ramp and you have space to pull your vehicle on the right where a wall of glass sliding doors await, bellman to take your luggage. The check in is literally right across the floor maybe 50 ft from the doors and you are set. A tip for the elevator keypad (its very sensitive), use the corners of each number. The keypad screws up people all the time and you will mess up sometimes and get the wrong floor and then ride a local to your floor since you and 3 other people mistyped on keypad. Its touchscreen pad vs physical buttons so many people mess up and you end up stopping at 5 floors nobody wanted to get to your floor. Another tip, to miss the main lobby elevator when you walk back, take the elevator on the ground floor vs the lobby floor. You will have your elevator and avoid the crowd on the lobby level (by crowd maybe 10 people not a massive but sometimes worth avoiding).

One tip to keep in mind for a Charlie's pickup is not to use the Hilton Hawaiian Village option on their booking form, or they'll go directly to the HHV main lobby.

A better choice is to use the Goggle lookup option instead, and give it the Grand Islander's address - 2023 Kālia Road.

Last weekend, we made the mistake of choosing the HHV option, but still put the 2023 address in the pickup instructions box ... the driver ended up at the HHV main lobby before calling.

No biggie, but it would have saved the driver a trip up & down Rainbow drive.

When we arrived, we told the driver our destination was The Grand Islander ... they know where it is.

Thanks for the tip. Thats helpful. I did use the4 drop down location for our drop-off from the airport, but had added the Grand Islander in the comments. I will make sure the pickup reservation when we leave uses the Kailia road address.
