Google Turns On Google Now Cards for 70 New Apps - by Darrell Etherington/ News/ TechCrunch.com

"Google Now has been expanding the range and variety of its Google Now cards, with 40 third-party partners unveiled in January. Seventy are being added to the Google app on Android today, bringing the total pool of Now partners up to 110.

Some marquee partners from the new group include Zipcar, which will now display upcoming end times for reservations so that you can remember to get it back to the designated spot in time to avoid a penalty; Spotify, which can now offer up playlists based on your recent listening trends and other contextual info, such as time of day; ABC News and Circa for breaking news; delivery reminders for food ordering service Eat24; and fitness progress reminders from apps like Runkeeper. OpenTable will even let you pay your restaurant bill directly from Now.

Cards from these new partners require that you have the latest version of the official Google app, and that you have the updated versions of each of the respective partner apps, too. You can get the full list here to see if your favorite app was included in this round....

Google Now is a well known feature of the world's most popular and powerful mobile OS, Android. The cards provide useful information based on your habits and usage.

Now you know!

On my Sony Xperia S it is an awesome feature that trawls my Google connected stuff to tell me what's going on in my world. All I have to do is press and hold the home key.

Flights. Hotels. Amazon delivery. Stock prices. Weather. More...

Yep, all that and sports scores, news articles on things you routinely search, local news, etc. Basically a personal information aggregator that you don't have to configure -- Android configures it for you automatically!

Now I know why I don't know. :D

You Can Now Use Shazam, Instacart, and Other Android Apps with "Okay Google" Commands - by Greg Kumparak/ News/ TechCrunch.com

"You’ve been able to use your voice (“Ok Google”) to do all sorts of stuff on Android for a while now. But said stuff has almost entirely been built-in by Google itself; third-party developers haven’t really been able to tap into that functionality.

Today, that changes. Though it’s limited to select apps for now, things like “Ok Google, Shazam this song” or “Ok Google, Show me Smurfs 2 on Flixster” are now possible..."
