looking for a good online MBA program. Don't want to have to take GMAT's, been a while since I graduated College.

Heard bad things about Univ of Phoenix (on tug). How about Strayer, or
Ashford? I guess there are a ton of them out there? Don't want to spend a ton of money either.

I'm looking for a decent school with a good reputation. Last thing I want to do is spend a lot of time and money on am MBA that isn't worth the paper it's on.

I'm thinking of the MBA as a way of advancing my career - hopefully at my company. With major downsizing going on - who know's if it will be at this company or the next one.

Help.

From many of the news stories I've read, if you worked for the government could just purchase your MBA online to ensure promotions. When discovered (usually by an investigative reporter), it seems like nothing happens. Recently, there was a report about a very high government official in the Education area with virtually a mail-order degree, but he wasn't disciplined.

I'm not familiar with the online programs, but my guess is you'd learn lots more by actually attending classes part-time at a well-recognized university. These days employer's place a lot of emphasis on where your MBA was obtained. Of course, those having obtained their degrees online will probably disagree. I just don't think there's a good substitute for the actual classroom. I received my MBA from DePaul University in Chicago after attending evenings and full weekend classes for about a little over a year. The employer value of my MBA doesn't hold a candle to an MBA from the University of Chicago and others. There is a big difference in the eyes of employers (except maybe the government)where the MBA was earned.

A program with a good reputation and a degree with value is going to have AACSB accreditation and will require the GMAT.

I'll agree, there is a difference in quality and programs with minimum standards are probably not worth it. There are a lot of good colleges that offer online MBA programs - don't be afraid of the GMAT!

You want an MBA from a decent school with a good reputation and you don't want to spend a lot of time and money on an MBA that isn't worth the paper it's written on but you don't want to write the GMAT - I don't get it.

If you think the GMAT is too difficult (not sure what your reasons are) then I have to assume that you want an MBA that's easier than the GMAT which makes your qualifiers of good school and quality MBA impossible to achieve IMO.

Personally, I found the GMAT extremely easy. My perception is that an MBA is considerably more difficult than the GMAT.
