My husband is thinking of taking some of his golf buddies to NC for a golf week in early October next year. Are there any nice resorts with/near reasonablly-priced golf courses? Wil the weather still be fairly warm?

Any advice is greatlky appreciated.

Yes, weather is perfect, and very warm.

North Carolina is a beautiful state, and my favorite area is Pinehurst (a famous area for golf), but I'm not sure about timeshare resorts there. Matter of fact, i don't think North Carolina would be your best bet, for sheer numbers of courses or for deals.

Nevertheless, see this:

My personal opinion is that you would find MANY more great deals, AND many more golf courses (per area) in South Carolina, particularly Myrtle Beach area and Hilton Head area.

The Myrtle Beach area probably has more golf courses than any place i know of in the continental US (117 in all), and Hilton Head has some of the most beautiful ones, with many to choose from also. Both of those areas are renowned for the golf vacations!!!! They would particularly love Harbour Town Golf Links at Hilton Head, where an annual PGA Tour event is played every year-----the course is beyond superb, and if they stay at Marriott's Heritage Club, they have privileges there for one day, and privileges somewhere else each and every subsequent day-----a real deal!

Hilton Head golf courses:

Myrtle Beach golf courses (117 in all....here's list of TOP 50):

Seascape resort on the NC Outer Banks is adjacent to the Seascape golf course. Owners at the resort have golf priveleges included in their ownership rights. Exchangers or renters have to pay for their golf, but it is very convenient and a nice resort.

I would go to M B. There are several golf courses there. He can call Martins Golf store and ask for rates. They always have good ones. Also, the courses are looking for players. I was told it has not been an easy year for golf. Also, call the M B Chamber of Commerce to send you out info on golf. Good luck.

I have no idea about the availability of time shares in Pinehurst, but the courses there are spectacular.

There are golfing condos in the area (Pinehurst, Aberdeen and Southern Pines) and the weather in October should be wonderful.

I lived in the the Pinehurst / Aberdeen / Southern Pines area for about eight years, it's a great Golfing location. Pinehurst #2 is where the US Open has been played a couple times in the past few years.

Myrtle Beach, S.C. is only a couple hours drive from Pinehurst. Just go to both.

Another good web site is www.sandhillsgolf.com
It lists the fourteen courses in the Pinehurst area.

At one time there were TS at The Country Club of Whispering Pines (It borders Pinehurst, near the near airport) and Foxfire Resort and Golf. There some nice hotels in the area also.

They will be driving from Toronto, so that's why they chose NC over MB. Also, DH has been to MB several times, and thought he would like to try somewhere new.

There are more than 14 courses in the area.

The site does not list any of the Pinehurst courses (there are 8 courses), Pine Needles or Mid-Pines.

I'm sure there are more than that too.

The Pinehurst area is very nice. There's really not a lot to do there other than golf. Maybe that's the point though.

I would also suggest that they look at Williamsburg (Virginia). There are tons of great courses there and the weather is perfect in October.

Here's a good link for NC Golf Courses. http://www.ncgolf.com/

If all they wanted to do was to play golf I would consider trading into something like Foxrun over in Lake Lure. Trades through both II and RCI. Two 18 hole courses and a beautiful area. Just not much to do other than golf but then again, for me that would be great.

+1 with Foxrun. We have stayed there with friends and are now owners. I played the Rumbling Bald course this summer and it was great. There's also the Apple Valley and Municiple courses nearby. As far as things to do you have Chimney Rock, Asheville, Black Mountain, Biltmore Estates, all close as well as waterfalls, hiking, horseback riding, and watersports.
