I have been reading some posts here saying Orlando area has too many TS (which is true, a few good ones). So, there's an excess of weeks avaiable, including good weeks.

Considering this, some Orlando weeks don't trade very well, and maybe a week in a place with less offer would trade better.

Let's say that maybe a summer week in Park City or Vail would trade better that a Platinum in Orlando. Would that be possible? Someone to share any experience?

Since you are on the Marriott board, I assume you are talking about Marriott properties. That said, many "gold" weeks do trade well and some even get AC's when deposited with II. However, a good platinum week at a resort like Grande Vista will trade on very well. There has been this false belief that because there are so many timeshares in Orlando that maybe Orlando weeks don't trade well. WRONG.

Search through various Tug threads and you will find just the opposite. Grande Vista platinum weeks trade as well as most Marriott platinum weeks. :D

Terry has summed it up very well. I own a platinum at Grande Vista and have received some great exchanges during peak seasons. I can't speak for the other Marriott timeshares in the Orlando area, but MGV trades well.

That's what I thought. Any Horizons, Cypress or the Palms?

Someone here on Tug once made a good point. Although there are many many timeshares in Orlando, there are few high quality timeshares (as compared to demand). Orlando is probably the most demanded vacation spot on Earth, so if you have a QUALITY timeshare there it most likely will trade well. :D

Especially, of course, if you reserve and deposit a high demand week.

I really was surprised of how easily I could rent out my spring break 2009 week at Sheraton Vistana Resort (not really a high quality resort) as it is a high demand week. I was really afraid to not rent it as the economy worsend. But no: Lots of inquieries at about 20% above MF.

So even in Orlando, great weeks at good (but not great) resorts are not too bad.

There are many Marrriott resorts outside of Orlando were the "Gold" weeks trade very well.

So please do not get all caught up in the color of your week. Remember that just because Marriott called the week a certain color doesn't mean all weeks in that color will trade better than all the weeks in a "lessor" color.

Cypress Harbor - sport week

I reserved our 2 bedroom Cypress Harbor for Memorial weekend this year and have had an ongoing search in II for 9 months now for ANY Marriott in Hawaii for one of the last 2 weeks of June..........nothing yet. What was weird is our Gold level resort in Las Vegas -(which I do not feel is as nice) pulled a Maui week in just 5 weeks. (not Marriott - but still nice)
I am thinking that Cypress Harbor doesn't have that good of pulling power!! At least that is my experience over the past 9 months...........

It seems the comparison may be apples to oranges. Marriott vs. non-marriott searches can have vastly different outcomes.

My 2 bedrm Kona Coast II last week of Aug no pull either

I agree that Marriott vs. non-Marriott pulls differently. What I don't understand is PULL Power. Neither my Marriott or even my Kona Coast II have pulled the unit I was requesting...whereas my Monarch Cancun Las Vegas unit pulled Maui in 5 weeks. It seems like Kona Coast should have pulled before Las Vegas and they are both Gold crown.

So please do not get all caught up in the color of your week. Remember that just because Marriott called the week a certain color doesn't mean all weeks in that color will trade better than all the weeks in a "lessor" color.

And sometimes Marriott gets the colors wrong, as evidenced by the differing seasons at Oceana Palms and Ocean Pointe, resorts that are 1 mile apart, on the same island, on the same stretch of beach, yet have different seasons. Ocean Pointe, for example, has 4 1/2 months of silver season while Oceans Palms doesn't have a silver season at all.

So it is possilbe that, in some cases, lower season weeks such as Silver or Gold might have stronger trading power than would be expected outside of the Marriott system but, I wouldn't bank on it. I believe (I could be wrong) that Marriott resepects the season they assigned when ranking power for internal exchanges. However, once you get outside the Marriott exchange system, I.I. has it's own method of valuation for a week. This is without regard to how Marriott values those weeks within their own system.

So yes, it's possible that there are some Gold, Silver or maybe even Bronze weeks that trade better than the season assigned them by Marriott. But a high quality resort and a high demand week will preform well in an overdeveloped location so long as that developer doesn't over builld their own supply within their system.
