Definitely won't buy from them retail.. It is HGVC Flamingo ..

We have stayed there many times as guests but first time as owner... Would love any perks they might give for visiting a presentation... If the gift is worth the high pressure!

Also, has anyone been there recently? I am wondering how far the upgrade is. They started the upgrade last Jan when we were there and it is my understanding they aren't near complete.

Some folks use little tricks to shorten their time with the sales-weasels, like bringing printouts of resale prices or hiring crying babies. I simply won't waste my precious vacation time to get my ears boxed, no matter what they offer to leave on my nightstand.

You asked "Going to our property next week as MEMBER, any reason to visit presentation?"

The short answer is: No!

If you do decide to go to a presentation, pick an owners update rather than a sales presentation, they're shorter and directed toward owners . Also, if you want the presentation/update cut short, just let them know you purchased your TS resale: they wont be happy.

When I was there a few months ago, they were pushing a dinner and a show, neither of which I was interested in. They will give you a list of the shows you can get tickets for and there were 3 dining places. Had they had anything that I was going to go to anyway, I may have done it.

They have a limo pick you up at Flamingo and take you to the HGVC on the other end of the strip for the presentation. So, in addition to the time of the "owner update," you will need to add on some time for their travel. If they say 90 minutes, figure on adding another 30 for the ride to and from.

Yeah, I did that at Parc Soleil this fall (before I was actually through the title transfer) and still had to go through three people to get my $100. gift card.. They wanted to make sure I knew I couldn't get to elite status that way..

BIG RED FLAG!! You're stuck! You'll get back when they want to take you back.

Car dealers have a similar technique that's called "un-horsing." They ask for keys to the car so they can determine trade-in value. It's hard to leave when they've got your keys.

We went and saved hundreds on show discounts and food vouchers.

We were not interested to buy into another system, just say no and collect the coupons.

This was to my advantage, normally I avoid the update and enjoy my vacation.

I use to do "owner updates" all the time when gifts were good like 1/2 off excursions on the Big Island. It saved us $450. Gifts aren't that great anymore or perhaps they just can't pay me enough to go to one.

If they have a gift you want do it. It not, don't go. At the end of the presentation simply say "we're not buying anymore timeshares. Stick to that. Don't elaborate. Offer no more explanation. They will seize on anything.

Figure it this way: how much time will it take? What are they offering?

If you actually earn more per hour doing something else then don't do the presentation. Most of us, if we can honestly afford a timeshare, earn more money working (or could earn more by working) than going to timeshare presentations.

It's only worthwhile if you don't value your time very highly. Or if you're lonely and just want someone to talk to. Or maybe if you're curious about the techniques the salespeople use and you want to study them or something like that.

In Vegas, it's time not in a casino, which saves big bucks!!

Of course, I'd much rather be spending the time in a casino....

Since I've been a memeber, I've been to Kinglands and Sunrise Lodge twice, Seaworld, Int'l Drive and Flamingo once. I've never been asked nor approached about a owner's update and/or a sales presentation.

Time in a Casino or a Timeshare Presentation?

In Vegas that is an interesting thought. You have to figure that a timeshare presentation is about 2 hours. You get a gift worth about $200.

When you are in a Casino betting your average loss is what?

Say it is $100/hour. In 2 hours you would lose $200.

So if you went to a presentation you can look at it as a sure bet for coming out $400 ahead in 2 hours. Two hundred dollar gift and saving Two hundred dollars at the Casino.

I'll take the bet.

Or you could just stay home, not pay for flight and meals out, etc., and save how much?

Statistically, if you gamble $100 per hour for 2 hours, you should expect to lose about $40-$60 per hour depending on the game. This is because sometime you actually win. There are also many things to do in LV that don't involve gambling.

You should learn Pai Gow Poker--it's a great way to lose your money slowly.

Don't bother--painful, and boring (Oceans 22)

I sat through--make it endured--a presentation yesterday and will never do it again. Their offer was $100 Hilton dollars or 10,000 points.

We went to an owners update at Elara a month ago. Had a great tour, which I wanted since we hadn't been there before, and once they found out we were resale the presentation was over. So we got food and drinks as well as 2 tickets to jersey Boys for a total of 30 minutes. Not bad. But, we were there for 7 nights so that does help.
