The week of July 4th I will be at my home resort, Marriott Manor Club the original section for the first time! We are so looking forward to the trip.

Just wondering if other owners could give me any tips for buildings, views, room or floors to request. Any area pointers would be helpful1

Thanks so much TUGgers!

The buildings all are quite nice.

All except Berkley have been rehabbed within the last 6 months - we were there in January and March and were assigned to Chesapeake.

The whirlpools are new, and the bathrooms were redone as were the kitchens. The master bath is no longer open to the master bedroom - there's a door.

Three flat screens and a blue ray dvd player hooked up to the flat screen over the fireplace. The nook where the CRT TV used to be now has doors over empty shelves.

Chesapeake and Governor's flank the clubhouse where the pool is if that's important to you. Governor's basement also hosts the activities and may see more traffic than the others. Other than Berkley, they are pretty similar other than location.

Check the resort map - click on the thumbnail.

Ask for a golf course view upstairs.

You are going to one of the nicest of the Marriotts. Enjoy, and don't forget to ask for your golf privileges upon check in.

May I suggest you read the TUG Resort Database on the Manor Club.

They are so many reviews about this very fine resort.

Do not miss the fire works on the July 4th at Colonial Williamsburg.

They took out the elegant picture over the fireplace and put a flat screen TV up there? So much for the colonial look! I'm really surprised they would do that.

Thanks for the picture, Windje. It helps to see it. While the new look isn't bad, it certainly isn't the same as before. I'm sure some people are happy to have a bigger TV, but I much preferred the formal look with the lighted painting over the fireplace.

I'll take granite in the kitchen and bathroom, flat screen tvs in the other rooms, new tile, a new shower, and new furniture if I have to lose the painting over the fireplace. In fact, I'd lose the fireplace as a trade for the new stuff. The bedroom furnniture is very very nice

I must confess that I don't like the HOA at MMC because the old boys club simply won't make themselves available to the owners they represent, even when they raised MF something like 18% one year and 12% the next. On the other hand, unlike BeachPlace, they don't go cheap on refurbs or mix old stuff with new. I think it's about time they got rid of the old TVs and glad they put in BluRay DVD rather than the $29 players most marriott's have and wondered how they would do the change, so thanks for the snapshot. The layouts of the MMC masters are often different, so it will be interesting to see that change.

Many years ago, MMC was the first of 6 Marriott TS I bought and from a quality point of view it is the best of the ones I own IMO. Too bad it's so undervalued on eBay...but that could be because the HOA raised the MF up so it was more comparable to other Marriott TS. No doubt the MF will be going up again now which will cause another flood of MMC bargains on the resale market.

I am at the MMC now...staying at the Berkley. It too has been redone and is beautiful. This is by far the largest 2 bedrm I've stayed in. It is more like an apartment. The grounds are lovely. It is a more formal timeshare, probably because of Williamsburg. We have small children with us and can't say this is the most kid friendly place.Taking them to Bush Gardens tomorrow, so that should make up for that.

My sister and I stayed in the Berkley when we went on an II getaway a few years ago. It was I think the biggest 2br I've ever stayed in.

I didn't get a good kid vibe off it at the time, but now mine are older(14/10) so it may work.

What floor are you on? We were on the 2nd and it sound like a herd of cows was in the room above us. Thank goodness they went to bed at a reasonable time and didn't get up too early.

Thanks for the picture show. The jacuzzi looks a lot smaller than the 'room for two' ones of the past. I might miss that. ;)

We are staying on the first floor at the Berkley,as requested due to the small children. Never again! You are right about the noise above us.It is full ocupancy here and we can hear everything.

Thanks everybody! So Berkley has the largest rooms and the most noise? So overall most would rather not stay in Berkley?

That's also been my experience, and I've stayed in Berkley several times. I would only stay there if I could get a third floor unit, which is usually impossible.

The reason Berkley is noisy is its wood frame construction. My understanding is that it was constructed as a condo prior to Marriott acquiring it and the site for development as a timeshare. All the other buildings are concrete/masonry.

Berkley also has lousy access for disabled, as a wheelchair must enter one of the two flanking doors which are accessed with bumpy brick walks, go to the center of the building for the elevator and then to the unit, passing through a fire door on each floor.

Thank goodness it wasn't just me! When we traded into Summit Watch the next summer, my request was top floor don't care what building.

I think the construction does has something to do with it.

I've stayed in Berkeley several times and never had a noise issue. I've never had a third floor unit.

The Berkley is the largest and oldest building in the complex and very inconvenient for anyone with a walking problem for the reasons mentioned so well above. It's also a pretty good hike to the office/marketplace and the furthest from the large pool on the Sequel side. A few years ago it was quite a grand place to stay... lots af space as well as books and ornaments on the shelves, but the shelves are bare today.

Hi Ray. We also visited our home resort at MMC first time last Jul4th week - it was a very nice experience taking into account the feel of the entire area (history, etc) + the resort. You shall enjoy. We skipped Busch Gardens, we did not feel like we missed anything. Take a Ghost Walk tour and do the whole Historic Triangle (Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, and Yorktown) thing - very interesting and of course not enough time. DO PREPARE for the HEAT !
