If this is available in the wine section in your local Trader Joe's. I think this is a tremendous bargain at $2.99/bottle
Have not been in a Trader Joe's in more than 10 years when I had business trips much farther west. The recommendation sounded intriguing, and the CO TJ is around the corner from a sushi restaurant I have wanted to try take-out for a change of pace from my usual favorite.
First stop at the new sushi place did not work out. Closed or did not answer the number posted on the door for take-away. Gave up. Walked the two blocks back to TJ.
Outstanding success at the one TJ wine shop in CO (due to weird CO laws, every grocery chain is allowed only one liquor outlet in the state). There were a couple of cases of the Pinot Grigio in the display racks; picked up four bottles, because it is a 20 minute drive each way from home, plus a couple bottle of the St. Somewhere Chardonnay from Alexander Valley. Picked-up sushi at my usual place on the way home to enjoy with the pinot grigio.
Tasting results: Every time I try a new wine, one word springs to mind; with the Giardino Pinot Grigio that word was "watery." For me, the pinot grigio is a "light" wine like a "light" beer. The light flavors completely disappeared with the sushi dinner, and it was like a glass of water.
The Pinot Grigio is a non-vintage, so bottles may vary widely in taste. I will likely save the remaining bottles of Pinot Grigio for the summer, try a chilled glass in the mountains as an aperitif (mountain locations somehow intensify food and wine flavor for me), and reduce and freeze the remainders into cubes to use in cooking.
I found a taste for Sauvignon Blanc more than 20 years ago when I craved an alternative to Chardonnays. Anyone who enjoys pinot grigio should try some sauvignon blancs. At the price point for the Giardino Pinot Grigio ($3.99/750 ml in Colorado), I can recommend the Black Box Sauvignon Blanc. A non-vintage wine, so your box may be different than mine, but it has shown consistent quality over the past year for $18 at Costco ($4.50/750 ml), but it does require a commitment to 3L of a new wine.
Anyone interested should do a side-by-side taste test.
