I just realized that my transfer from Kona to Honolulu will be on Ironman Triathalon day, and was wondering what difficulties I should expect in getting to the airport.
I will be traveling from Waikoloa to KOA at about 10:00 am or so.

TIA for any advice.

eta: I will be driving myself, and I do realize that the main road between Waikoloa and KOA is used for the bicycle portion of the race.

Last year we were driving on the BI on Iron Man day. To the best of my memory, only part, i.e. the side of the road, of the main highway from Waikoloa to Kona was blocked. We didn't have any trouble getting around, but it was slower because of the blocked lane and spectators. Definitely allow yourself extra time. You might contact the concierge and talk to them.
