Scottish singer-songwrititer Gerry Rafferty has died at age 63.
He was best known for solo hits "Baker Street" and "Right Down the Line,"
and with the band, Stealers Wheel, "Stuck in the Middle with You."

Sadly, his death is being attributed to liver failure brought on alcoholism,
and he had been in the hospital since November.

... Not a major artist, but cute, little songs...

Well I don't know why I came here tonight,
I got the feeling that something ain't right,
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair,
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs,
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right,
Here I am, Stuck in the middle with you.

Sad news. Who among us hasn't played air-saxophone to Baker Street?

Good songwriter, distinctive voice. Every time I hear Baker Street, I remember driving down Route 66/ I-55 through Illinois with the windows down and the AM radio cranked up.

Baker Street.

Sadly, his death is being attributed to liver failure brought on alcoholism, and he had been in the hospital since November.
Alcoholism is a killer -- a chronic & progressive & fatal disease without cure. There is help, help that really works -- but the help is available only to people who want it. Willingness is the key.

I guess Gerry Rafferty knew he had alcoholism. Part of Baker Street (1978) goes . . .

He's got this dream about buyin' some land.
He's gonna give up the booze & the 1 night stands.
And then he'll settle down in some quiet little town,
And forget about everything.

Sad news. Who among us hasn't played air-saxophone to Baker Street?
Sax player on that track is Raphael Ravenscroft. According to Wikipedia Dot Org, air is what he got paid for the recording session -- because the check for £27 bounced. So it goes.

-- Alan Cole, McLean (Fairfax County), Virginia, USA.

Sad story indeed.

Really enjoy listening to those songs.
