We have traded into Gatlinburg Town Square for summer 2007. Just wondering if you can walk down town from this resort. I have visited the area many times and I know parking can be an issue both in terms of finding a place to park and can be an added expense. Also wondering about the laundry situation I was told there would be no washer/dryer in the unit, but the resort has laundry rooms that are free for guest. We have traded for a 1 br. unit and just curious about the size.

Thanks for any information :

According to this site there are W/D in the 1BR... but I don't believe it as they don't show up in the 2BR or 3BR descriptions, then the onsite facilities include Laundry.

Haven't stayed there but we've driven past. It's a couple of easy, short blocks to walk to downtown Gatlinburg from this resort. Enjoy!

Just left GTS yesterday

We just left Gatlinburg Town Square yesterday. We stayed in a 2 bed/2bath lockout. Gatlinburg was busy over the Labor day weekend but traffic was fine by Tuesday. GTS has underground parking, we only got the car out to go to the park and to drive to the outlet mall in Pigeon Forge. If you are in good health you are within a 15 minute walk of most everything in Gatlinburg. It is a 5 minute walk from the resort to the main parkway. You are an easy 10 minute walk to many restuarants. The downtown location is one of the best benefits of GTS. Our unit had washer/dryer but there is a laundry room on each floor 3, 4, 5, 6 directly across from the elevators. We went into the laundry unit on the fifth floor, there were 3 washers and 3 dryers, one of each was out of order, they are free to use.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about the resort. If you are in a lockout side (one bedroom) in phase 2 I can tell you exactly what your unit would be like. I even have pictures.

You can walk from Gatlinburg Town Square to midtown although it's a good distance especially walking back to GTS uphill, however if you have no health problems it's no big deal and good exercise. There's a sidwalk on both sides of the street.

P.S. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath but no washer/dryer in the unit. I guess some units have them and some don't.

Phase 1, 2 bedroom units do not have a washer/dryer in the unit. Phase 2, 2 bedroom units have a washer/dryer. The phase 2 units are lock-out units, the second bedroom has a queen bed and jacuzzi tub as well as a sofa sleeper, mini fridge, microwave, etc.

The thing is, GTS is as close to anything else in Gatlinburg as most of the parking lots are. Once parked, it is still a several block walk from one end of the the strip to the other, regardless of where along the strip you parked. GTS is approximately one block off the strip (downhill "to", but uphill "back") Many of the municipal parking places are farther away than that. (Not all of them, but most)

For people who prefer to be dropped off nearer the restaurant door or store front, Gatlinburg still runs their trolley system. It's a little slow, esp when traffic is heavy, but it is an option.

We've never stayed at GTS (we generally prefer staying in Pigeon Forge because of the kids) but it has an enviable location and is arguably one of the best placed ts in the area if you are planning to explore Gatlinburg in depth.

Isn't there a shuttle or trolley service in town?

Yes, there are several different routes, there is a trolley stop right across the street from the registration office at Gatlinburg Town Square. I think in summer season the trolley comes by every 20 - 30 minutes. Once you figure out the routes and stops the trolleys are a good way to get around.

We just got back from Town Square. We were confirmed to a 2 bedroom sleep 6 unit which I heard was in phase one, but when we arrived, were given a two bedroom sleeps 8 unit in phase 2, room 322A+B. The main one bedroom side is a nice size, and the lock-off portion was a small one bedroom unit with couch and kitchenette. No whirlpool tub in this side. The big side had stackable washer dryer. I would not want to spend a week in the small lock-off part, but our 17 year old daughter enjoyed having her own unit. The main portion of the unit was roomy and had a large master bedroom and bath, with 2 person whirlpool. The walk downtown is comfortable during good weather, and if you decide you don't care to walk, the trolley is convenient. We never felt the need to use it.

That is interesting, we stayed in unit 512 which is also considered phase 2 and the lock-off unit has a queen size bed, sofa/sleeper, kitchenette, 32 inch TV, stereo, full bath, 2 person whirlpool and a fireplace. When I look for a resale purchase at GTS I will be sure to limit my purchase to the units with the better appointed lock-off. Thanks for the information Polly!
